GEORGE GORHAM Obituary

GORHAM--George Whittington, MD, died on January 29th in New York City. Born in 1927 into an Albany family of physicians, he was an internist in NYC for more than 40 years. A graduate of Exeter Academy, he served in the US Army ('45-'46) before completing his BA at Yale in 1950. He received his MD from Johns Hopkins in 1954, where he also did his internship and residency. He later completed a fellowship in renal disease at Boston University School of Medicine ('57-'60). He cared deeply for his patients and for the practice and teaching of medicine. Devoted to family and friends, he was always ready to help or advise. A life-long music lover, he enjoyed playing the recorder and singing--particularly country and western. Loved and missed by daughter Sarah G. Hunter, granddaughter Abigail G. Hunter, son-in-law David Hunter, son John W. Gorham, daughter-in-law Julie Glover, and his Cushman cousins. Memorial to be held in the spring. Please email

Dr Gotham was my physician for years in NYC. He was a wonderful person and physician who took notes with pen and paper, called after me about how I was doing and questioned me deeply during visits. He represented a physician who is hard to find these days
