RONALD A. NICHOLSON

NICHOLSON--Ronald A. Born February 9, 1928. Died at home February 26 from complications of liver cancer. Predeceased by his mother and father, Ethel (Alfond) and Max Nicholson. A consummate story-teller. Lived big with quiet reserve. Quintessential negotiator-dispassionate, analytical and fair. Zealot fan. Thoroughbred owner and breeder. City Journal chronicled poker-playing aficionado. Loved his family and his country. Loyal to a fault. Will be missed only when those who love him can consciously accept his absence. For now we all still hear his laughter. Survived in sadness by his significant other and wife of forty plus years, Pat (Emsworth-Rodgers) and son, Justin, as well as daughter and son Leslie and James by his first marriage to the former Susan Zeckendorf. Ron was an adoring grandfather to Madeleine, Eric, Alison and Scott Goldstein; Amanda, David and Michael Nicholson; a caring older brother to Alfred (Pete); a beloved uncle to his nieces and nephews and a trusted and respected extended family member, friend and colleague. Cremation and burial private. A memorial service will be held at the Frank E. Campbell, 1076 Madison Ave. at 81st St., Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at 3:30pm. Family will receive visitors immediately following the memorial service at the residence of Pat Nicholson, 1016 Fifth Avenue (entrance on 83rd Street), apartment 15A.
