Daniel, DDS. Known to all as "Doc or Dr. B," died unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 7, 2018. He was stricken while doing what he enjoyed most and did best, taking care of his patients. John was a generous, kind, good-natured neighbor, both in Manhattan and in Bridgehampton. When his friends had problems, questions, or just needed someone to talk to, John was inevitably the first person they thought of. He was proud of his education at Xavier, Manhattan College and NYU School of Dentistry, and his service as a US Army Captain during the Vietnam War. Dr. Buonasera's first wife, Sherry Jean, died 11 years ago. Their sons, Ash, his wife Nicoletta and their children Baylor, Bella and Luca, and Bradford and his wife, Manon, and their children Mia and Madison were the joy of his life. John is survived by his devoted wife, Susan of six years, his step- daughter, Jessica Goncalves, her husband, Nuno and his newest grandbabies, Tommy and Penelope. A Memorial Mass to honor his life is planned for 11am, Saturday, February 24 at The Church of St. Francis Xavier, 46 West 16th Street, NYC, NY 10011.

We are shocked and heartbroken at the news of Dr. Buonasera's passing. He was such a kind, funny, full of life, sweet man. He was my family's dentist for the last 40 plus years. We are lucky to have known him and he will be thought of and missed.

I am so saddened to have heard this terrible news today. Dr. Buonasera has been my family's dentist ever since he started his practice in Westbury. He was the nicest, sweetest and most caring person. And he gave great shots. I feel blessed for having had him in my life. My condolences to his family.

Just learned of this sad news .
I have been a patient of Dr Buonasera's for over 20 years and just had a check up with him last month.
Always the most professional (and sometimes very humorous)
and had many conversations with him on his children -grandchildren
Always made me feel very comfortable and at ease

This is a man I have known for 17 years and who had been my boss and like my second father to me for 14 of those years. He was the type of boss you dream about having. He was a loving man who dedicated his life to his job. Making $ was not his way of life as he truly cared for his patients and their well being. I will always treasure my laughs that made me cry. My condolences to all of his family and friends, my heart breaks for you. I love and miss you Dr B. God truly gained another angel!

John and I have been best friends for over 65 years!We grew up together in Valley Stream! John was a fantastic athlete and we played B.B. together for many years! We attended each other's wedding over 50 years ago. And we continued our friendship , and always will!
!I consider myself very fortunate to have such a great friend.John was a pillar in my life and my family's also
!We are all very shocked by his sudden loss!Jiohn was a special person in our lives, we will miss him greatly.Ash and Brad u had the greatest Dad in the world!He was very simply A Great Guy!!

i am saddened to see dr buonasera died. i have gone to the dentist all my life starting with dr zaino, and both dr b and dr del casino have worked on my teeth since then. dr b was very supportive from my accident in 2016 and has taken special care with any of the injuries that i have had due to the accident. it seems that a certain segment of my life has ended now that doc has left us. hope his family can find some relief in spite of their loss. i have always been told that he still there in spirit and probably is looking over them from heaven

Peter and I as well as our children are sincerely sorry for your loss. We have known Dr. B since we moved to Westbury in 1979. He took care of children, Kathleen, now 34 and lives overseas. We just made her appointment to see him. She will be devastated when she returns home this Saturday, the 17th. When she was a 4 year old still sucking her thumb, Dr. B. said " don't do that any more" and she just stopped. No more thumb sucking. He was amazing. He saw our Erin as well through braces, etc. We also had a Fordam connection with Fr. Tony, as Fr. Jim Keen is my husband's first cousin.
He always made us laugh, always maintained patient privacy. He knew I was a wreck when I would come in for dental work and he was so careful to personal attention. He saw me through breast cancer and other issues as well. I will truly miss this man. I can't imagine how his family, friends and coworkers must feel too.

The Manhattan College alumni community shares the grief, and is now praying for our fellow alumni and the family at this time. The Alumni Office has been informed. As well as the Jasper Jottings community that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. "No man is an island, entire of itself ... any mans death diminishes me".
