GEORGE COMAS

COMAS--George Andrew,

was surrounded by family when he passed away peacefully on July 18, 2015, the day of his 77th birthday. Born in the Bronx to Frank Komatsulakis and Alexia Valakis, George demonstrated a keen intelligence early on at Stuyvesant High School. He graduated Manhattan College in 1958 then later served stateside in the Army during the Korean War. George began his career as a financial advisor at White Weld, which later was purchased by Merrill Lynch in 1978. At Merrill, he was a member of the Circle of Champions, an elite group of high-producing financial advisors. George's long and distinguished career spanned more than three decades before he retired from Merrill Lynch in 2003. For all his professional successes, what defined George was the joyous way in which he lived life. He treated each day as a celebration, something to be enjoyed and savored until well after sunset. While his gracious nature and good humor were shared with everyone he met, it was his beloved family and friends who were most precious to him. A passionate fitness enthusiast, George never let injury hold him back or dampen his spirit. No matter the challenges he faced, George's motto was that he was "Livin' the dream." From Miami to Manhattan to Southampton, George espoused this positive view, serving as an inspiration to everyone he met. The legacy George leaves behind bears the indelible imprint of the life he lived. He taught everyone that happiness is a choice, and life should always be lived to the fullest. He was the beloved father of Frank, Claire, Iris and John, and adored grandfather, or Geeg, to Lily, Caroline and Charlie. He is survived by his sister, Marie, niece, Christina, and nephews, Andrew, Peter and Dan. He is predeceased by his brother, Gus, and nephew, Gregory. George will be forever missed, and always loved. He indeed lived the dream. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at Frank E. Campbell Funeral Chapel, 1076 Madison Ave., New York, NY 10028.
