A family favorite of ours. Many great memories of a smart and fun man and all the good times that went along with him. He was very much a gentleman's gentleman - hard to find in today's world. He will be missed by all but by his family most no doubt.
Peace be with you and yours.

For the editor who worked with him, he was a great publisher of the monthly LIFE, smart, tolerant, imaginative, always aware of the importance of the editorial impact of his publication -- in short, the perfect guy with whom to share the running of a famous magazine.

True gentlemen are in very short supply. Mr. Whittingham -- I could never bring myself to address him as "Chuck," no matter how often he insisted that I do -- was a true gentleman in every sense of the word. He was also a very fine and kind man, and I shall miss him.
