IRWIN I. KIMMELMAN

KIMMELMAN--Judge Irwin I., 84, passed away on Friday, September 12, 2014. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Margaret, and his children Joan and Douglas and their spouses Edward and Carol. He was the proud grandfather of Lauren, Julia, Annie, Robert, Tommy and Scottie. Born in Newark, New Jersey, Judge Kimmelman graduated from the Rutgers School of Business Administration in 1952 and from Harvard Law School in 1955. He pursued a distinguished career in law and public service for 45 years. He was a partner at the law firms of Hannoch, Weisman and Kimmelman, Wolff and Samson. He was elected to the New Jersey General Assembly in 1963 and served as Essex County General Counsel from 1968 to 1970. In 1982, Judge Kimmelman was appointed by New Jersey Governor Thomas H. Kean to serve as Attorney General, a position he held until 1986. He was a Judge of the Superior Court of New Jersey, Chancery Division, from 1970 to 1976, and again from 1989 to 1994, at which point he was appointed to the Appellate Division, where he served until his retirement in 2000. An avid boater and fisherman, Judge Kimmelman spent his happiest moments with his family at his summer home on the Jersey shore.
