Dear Sondra -

Not sure if this will reach you but I wanted to express my deepest condolences on Jack's passing.

I fondly remember the time I spent with both of you in your wonderful studios and home in NY and the generosity you showed in
sharlng all your knowledge with the workshop students.

I hope that you take comfort in knowing that Jack's work and spirit will live on and inspire many other artists for years to come.

All the best

Jack, I love you and your work. You were a big influence on my understanding of art. I appreciate everything that you worked hard to bring into focus in the 1960s an 70s that seem so far away now but are very consequential in the big "picture." I am grateful to Marjorie Portnow for introducing us back in the Vestry Street days that I shared in NYC with Marjorie and you and Sondra.
Sondra - my heartfelt condolences are with you and yours.
With love,
Ray Kass

For 23 years I have admired Jack's giant murals dedicated to American labor in the lobby of the Dept. of Labor in Washington, DC. Forever I will be grateful for his artistic gifts and legacy.

Jack, you are one of a small handful of people that I count as a father. I've known you as long as I can remember, possibly longer, though I have not seen you in many years you were never far from my thoughts.

Godspeed.

Sending our love to you Aunt Sandy and to Uncle Jack's spirit above. We have so many great memories. There are not enough words to describe the great man that he was. He inspired so many people and has touched so many more. He will be missed.

Jack was not only a mentor and an inspiration, he was "family" in the true sense of the word. Over the years, he generously offered guidance, encouragement, enlightenment and unconditional love. My eyes are always open to the world and for that I am ever grateful.

Jack was well respected and loved by my brother, Charles Hankin. He always enjoyed the summer trips to Jack's so much. My deepest condolences, Sondra, on your loss. I pray Charles was there to greet him and they are finding ways to express their art together.

Though I only met Jack several times through my sister and brother-in-law (Sara and Steve Doherty), I was impressed by his enormous talent and wit. Condolences on his loss, Sondra, as you and the art world have lost an amazing personality and talent.

Jack had an amazing mind and talent, and a relentless spirit that kept the door open for everything beautiful in nature and daily life. He and Sondra carved a paradise in their work, their home and their life together- one was fortunate to cross their path. I am blessed to have known him and will miss him.

I'm honored and gratified to have been in an art class he taught while I was still in public school in Queens, New York. I had hoped to try to visit him recently to thank him and have him learn of my artistic accomplishments, blossoming in part from his inspirational instruction.
