JOAN BLOS Obituary

BLOS--Joan W.,

died on October 12 in Ann Arbor, MI at the age of 89. She was born in New York City, graduated from Vassar and received an M.A. in psychology from the City University of New York. She married Peter Blos, Jr. in 1953. Joan's professional work centered on children's literature. She taught at the University of Michigan and Bank Street College of Education, and authored a series of historical novels as well as picture books. Joan is best known for her book, "A Gathering of Days," for which she received the Newbery Medal and the National Book Award in the category of children's books. Her papers are archived in the library of the University of Michigan. Joan is survived by her husband, Peter Blos, Jr. and her grandchildren, Lucas Blos Brooks and Nicolas Blos Brooks.
