JOE LEACH Obituary

LEACH--Joe C. Joe C. Leach, originally of Brownwood, Texas, passed away on December 28, 2010. Joe came from humble beginnings in Brownwood, where his academic drive and basketball skills eventually earned him a full scholarship at Howard Payne University. After graduating, Joe gave back to his beloved home state as both a basketball coach and biology teacher. In the early 70s, his natural abilities in business carried him first to Dallas and later to Sydney, Australia, where he discovered the first designer denim: "JAG" jeans. He then opened the first ever jeans-only store in Beverly Hills, CA. After making his mark on the fashion world, Joe changed courses and went to work in finance for his mentor, Alan Greenberg, at the Los Angeles office of Bear Stearns. It was there that Joe's trademark tenacity, honesty and humility earned him the trust of those around him and allowed him to cultivate a thriving business and build precious friendships, both of which he lovingly nurtured for over thirty years. In addition to being a successful businessman and entrepreneur, Joe was a genuine bon vivant. Friends were always greeted with a warmhearted smile and notoriously good humor. In his free time, Joe loved to play golf and was an avid sports aficionado. Throughout his life, Joe remained proud of his modest roots and returned to Texas as often as he could. Joe is survived by his loving wife, Heyson Leach, and sons Skip Morelock Leach of Dallas and Scott Leach of Los Angeles. Predeceasing him were his parents Carl and Juanita Leach and brother Ronald Leach. Joe's favorite quote, "Life is not about learning to survive the storm, but rather learning how to dance in the rain..." We are all blessed to have danced with him. Coach, you were the best! The golf trips we made to high school golf tournaments---five guys, clubs all jammed in your little red and white Falcon---were the best times of my high school life. You taught me what style and class were all about! If I had only known you were right around the corner from me in West LA for years... I know you are still straight down the middle on the fairways in Heaven and smiling all the way to the bank! Thank you for everything you taught me and made me.

Joe may be gone but you are not forgotten. I worked for Joe for 9 years which also were my most memorable work related experiences. I was young and Joe gave me a chance I would not of had anywhere else other than at Bear Stearns. My time spent learning from him have helped me on countless occasions. His people skills were one of his best skills, he gave me, Bruce and KC enough room to grow the energy business to a huge success. He was a great mentor, friend and he passed onto me his love for Hermes ties. Thank you for all that you did for me, you will never be forgotten. I hope You can rest in peace knowing that your impact on your employees will last a life time. As I look back at my career and the people who were most instrumental I was fortunate to have met you. Thank you

I am a first cousin of Joe. The youngest of the bunch and also looked up to Joe. Brownwood was always a magical place for us to go visit. I loved Joe, his parents and brother, Ronald so much. I miss them all.

I can't believe that Joe Carl was right here in Los Angeles where I am, and that I didn't know it and never saw him. He was my one and only golf coach in Lampasas, TX and I caddied for him in the annual Hancock Park Championship. He was the kind of guy who always pushed for more, in a good way. I remember what he said after a good drive, "Have some of that".

Joe Carl was my first cousin. As a little girl, I looked up to him as the most handsome person. Of course, he was older and I was a bit younger. Always busy and doing things. The family is getting smaller to my regret. He will be missed.

We will always hold Joe very near.
A most significant series of bronzes were titled: "Joe's Angels".
For good reason.
