LYNN STRONG Obituary

STRONG--Lynn St. Clair, 72, of Manhattan, died on November 4th. Friend, colleague, copyeditor extraordinaire. Lynn began her career at Random House, where she brought her love of language, attention to detail, and respect for writers to books by Woody Allen, E.L. Doctorow, Frederick Exley, Pete Hamill, Peter Matthiessen, James Michener (who bought her a round-trip ticket to Paris as an expression of gratitude), George Plimpton, Philip Roth, James Salter, Bobby Seale, Gore Vidal, Robert Penn Warren, Geoffrey Wolff, many others. Her interests were broad, her tastes catholic: She edited dictionaries, women's magazines, medical textbooks, legal briefs, and, in the last decades of her life, books and calendars at Workman Publishing. Her craft is evident on the pages of books by Joseph C. Piscatella, Henry Lodge, M.D., and Chris Crowley, among many others, as well as on every card in the Brain Quest series. The list goes on and on. We can't believe that she isn't here to argue the evils of the serial comma. Her fans at Workman Publishing

I will have a hard time imagining Workman's offices without Lynn. She was a fixture at Workman for all the years I worked there and I know she will be missed by many in the publishing world. She was a great editorial mentor to me and to many others. Mostly, I will miss her quick wit and keen sense of humor! I hope you are surrounded by all the pretty horses Lynn. I will miss you.

Celebrate a life well lived!
I will cherish our memories forever. Lynn was one of the best people I have known. She did everything 110 percent and had more interests than imaginable. Lynn seemed to live many lives during her 72 years and I am honored to have shared some time with her in the last two decades.
