I first met Michael at his lecture on the Wilson Potters during their exhibit at the MFAH. We became dear friend & had many conversations about Wilson Geneology. Micheal would often go out of his way to call me and suggest diffrent possble donors for our Foundation and was our first Guest Speaker at our annual fundraiser. Michael was exceptional and we will always remember his kind and thoughtful manner.

How overwhelmingly sad to loose such a wonderful, talented, generous and delightful person. I know the love of many folks are with Bart and the Brown family, and all of us enjoy memories of a fine person.

Michael and I were friends for some 30 years. He was unique in his optimistic love of life, his deeply felt concern for others, his wry sense of humor, his remarkable connoisseurship, his meticulous scholarship, and his dedication to Bayou Bend. We all miss him deeply and extend our heartfelt sympathy to Bart.

I had not met Michael before when I left my house key under the mat so he would have a place to stay when he first arrived in Houston (I was out of town) but as another Deerfield Fellow he was a brother-in-arms. I will always remember his kindness as well as his wicked sense of humor. My condolences to Bart and the Brown Family.

As children Michael and I shared a love of tropical fish. We would delight in trading whatever offspring our guppies, platies, and mollies would produce. His generous spirit was always an integral part of who he was.

Michael was a true gentleman. He was the authentic man with no duplicity. Michael helped so very many people endlessly with out staking claim to his good deeds. May Michael's family and Bart know how well loved Michael has been to so many. His career, talent and life's work will keep Michael with us always and with those yet to come.

I only knew him for a day, March 25 2013 when he took Phyllis (one of his close friends) and I on a private tour of the museum. I was so impressed by his expertise and yet humbleness. He had such a kind, amazing presence.

For more than 30 years, Bayou Bend was truly Michael's home and he knew its tiniest details, but he always communicated an immense respect for the place, its mission, and its people. He was master of the quiet act of consideration and appreciation. His passing is truly a loss. We must count ourselves lucky to have been graced by his many gifts for so long.

Michael was an exceptional curator with incredible talent. He was also a long time client and a good friend. Patti and I feel fortunate that we could welcome Michael to our home this past year, but very sorry that he will not be returning as planned.

Michael was an amazing colleague, a mentor; a delight. Everytime I saw him, whether at my gallery or at the shows, he was so pleasant - and our view of ceramics was so simpatico. I really admired Michael so much and feel this loss very deeply. Please accept my sympathies for this so very way-too-early loss.
