I am sad to learn of the passing of the man who I considered the one who saved the life of my dear mother. I worked at Mt Sinai and was familiar with Dr Yahr in his scrubs and gloves. He was a task master, but when I brought my mother to him, he was a kind and understanding friend. He extended her life by at least 15 years. I know my story is only one of many. But suffice it to say that our family included Dr. Yahr in our prayers and gave thanks that G-D put him in our lives.

Bill and I were fraternity brothers at Dartmouth, and saw each other frequently during the years he lived in DC, then occasionally at reunions after that. He was an usher at my wedding. Knowing that Bill has died fills me with great sadness. The world has lost a super guy.

To Harriette and the Yahr family. My sincere condolences during this very difficult time with the passing of your grandmother as well as your Dad. I met your Dad when he was a resident at Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx, NY. I was an o.r. nurse. We had a special relationship throughout the years. I was devastated to hear from you that he had passed. We stayed in touch but in the last couple of years it was less. When I did not hear from him and couldn't reach him by phone I did the old fashioned thing and sent a note. Thank you for letting me know he passed. He has a very special place in my heart and I will always remember him. We enjoyed many Montefiore memories together and laughed a lot about the times. He was a wonderful, super intelligent, very talented, caring, and compassionate guy. He loved surgery and the many wonderful beneficial results. His feelings ran deep and hurt sorrowed him immensely. He loved you all very much and spoke warmly of you always. God bless you children and may Bill rest in peace. He will have a place in my heart always. With Much Love

I was the first female cardiac surgery resident at Sinai in 1976-77.Bill (and the rest of the team)were great. Bill was always so generous to everyone with everything. He was very caring about his pateients and co-workers. He had endless energy, both for fun and work.He will be greatly missed, but will never be forgotten by anyone he ever came in contact with. You have my deepest sympathy for such a profound loss.

To the Yahr family:
Please accept my deep sympathy for your loss. Liz, especially, know my thoughts are with you.

I worked on the heart team w/Dr. Yahr & Dr. Greenberg. Those were some of the happiest times of my life. Dr. Yahr was very good to me. I got to race on his multihul one year to Key Largo; it was a blast. He defended me against a nasty surgeon & I've never forgotten that. I learned a great deal working with him & have missed seeing him. My prayers are with the family & I hope peace and comfort come soon. He will be missed.

Dear Elizabeth, Harriette, Alex, Ashley & Ryan,
I knew your Dad and Grandfather only as Cousin Billy. He was always unfailingly kind me to as a child and a lot of fun when he came and visited us on Long island. I know he loved my Mom and came to visit whenever he could. I will miss him.

As an adult I saw him at family occasions and when I saw your Grandmother, my Aunt Beatty when I came to Florida .He was a gentleman and as far as I could see, extremely generous of spirit with you all. He loved you deeply and was very proud of each and every one of you. I hope you remember that fact always.

I was sorry to hear of his passing so early but know that now he is with his Mother and Dad and is out of pain. Please accept my own and my families deepest sympathies.

Harriette, Liz, and Alex,
I cried for the first time tonight. I loved the picture so much on the cover of the program from the funeral chapel, that I decided to frame it. I placed it next to another picture of your Dad & me taken at the Hurricane Bar in Miami Springs several years ago. (That was when you pulled off the surprise birthday party on St. Patrick's Day.) Your father was my "rock" for over 40 years. It was bittersweet to visit with him during these last months, and indeed an honor to speak at his funeral. So many years, so many memories, and so much love for this dear, dear man. May he rest in peace.
Sincerely,
Carol Lang

To Alex, Liz, and Harriette, Bill was a member of our family almost since the day Mom began working at MSMC in 1977. I don't have to tell you how special he was to our whole family. Bill and I emailed each other all the time and we had our share of political skirmishes, for sure, but there was always so much love. Next to Daddy, Mom thought Bill hung the moon, and I believe she may have been right. He was a true individual and one of the most talented and heart warming people our family has ever known. He will be greatly missed by Peggi, me, and all those who adored him. I don't know how to contact Scarlett so please pass our heartfelt condolences on to her, and all of you. I am happy that Mom went before Bill did. This would have been a heartbreak that could not be repaired for her. Peggi and I love and pray for you all.......

To the Yahr family: I trained at Mt Sinai in the 1970's and was chief medical resident in 1975. Bill was my friend, colleague, mentor in all things surgically, and he threw one hell of a party! Ill nevere forget going to his home in the shores and he was building his GTO in the living room!! He was the type of guy who siddled up to the bedside of a patient of mine in the ICU, put his cowboy boots on the bedrailing, and told my patient.."I know others havent given you much chance to survive, but we're gonna fix you!! Inspiration,Boundless Confidence and Skill, and a great human being.. that was Bill. I knew him till he moved away from Mt.Sinai.. but will never forget him.May he rest in peace and be given a special place for all the lives he saved and inspired.

Dear Harriette, Liz and Alex,

We are so very sorry to hear of the loss of your father. Our thoughts and many prayers are with you during this difficult time.

When we lived in Kansas for a time, we had the pleasure of having Bill visit us at our home. It was a time that we won't forget as he entertained us with many interesting stories and regaled us with laughter. Your father was a delightful man - fun-filled, caring, generous, and sincere. Additionally, his many years of service to mankind as a gifted surgeon is a legacy of which you can be most proud. Bill will be missed by many.

God's Blessing to you all.

Dear Liz and Harriet.... I'm sorry to read that your father has passed away. My father also passed away this past March. Although I didn't know your father, it sounds like he was a wonderful and interesting person and loving family man. May all the wonderful memories you had with him bring smiles to your faces for a long time to come. Again, I'm sorry for your loss.
