David Jordan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jul. 9 to Jul. 10, 2012.
1968 - 2012
David Sean Jordan, 43, a respected cycling coach and rider, was taken from us by the complications of a brain tumor, on Thursday, July 5, 2012, with his beloved family by his side. David resides in New York, NY.
Dave was born in the Bronx on November 1, 1968. He grew up in the Kingsbridge and Riverdale areas. He attended John F. Kennedy High School and the City University of New York (CCNY), majoring in Political Science. He is survived by his wife, Aytul, and children, Isabel and Magnus, his father, Councilman Dr. David B. Jordan (Susan Candee) of Edgewater, NJ, mother, Nancy K. Jordan of Seattle, WA, brother, Eric Jordan (Andrea) and sister, Tenley Cederstand (Eric). He was a dedicated father, and was deeply loved and respected by his family and friends. His children were the light of his life.
Dave was a prolific bicycle racer, coach, and team director. From the moment he received his first bike as a child he never lost his passion for riding, and felt most like himself and free on his bike. He raced BMX in his earliest competitive days and then was encouraged onto a road bike in 1987. He later chose cycling as a profession, and gained great satisfaction from sharing his vast knowledge of this sport. Most importantly, he was helpful and caring toward others, not only cyclists, but to family and people he knew from his travels all over the world.
His career as a cycling coach impacted a variety of local, academic, national and Olympic team cyclists. He, himself was a successful racer, both amateur and professional. Overall, he had more than 200 podium appearances, including eight New York State Cycling Championships. He raced competitively in the United States and Europe for more than 20 years.
(see www.davejordancoaching.com/home/abo
ut-jordan)
He was the founder and team manager of the present Jordan Cycling Team. He was past president of the Century Road Club Association (CRCA) who campaigned to improve riding and racing in New York. He continued to race up until his illness set in earlier this year. His last ride in the park found him surrounded by friends, many of whom encouraged him to keep up the fight as he had done for them, many times prior.

Funeral Services are scheduled for Friday, July 13 at Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx. Visitation will be held between 2:00pm and 3:00pm at the Chapel (just inside the Jerome Avenue entrance), followed by burial services at 3:00pm. A memorial ride honoring Dave will start at 8:30am on Sunday, July 15, meeting in Central Park, at the top of Cats Paw Hill. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Dave Jordan's Kids Memorial Fund. A paypal account has been set up in their honor, email address: [email protected])

So many years have passed since you were the adorable little towhead that loved getting back rubs at bedtime, teasing me mercilessly by using my head as a doorbell on our wonderful road trips to Port Charlotte (bing, bing, bing), cheering you on at your BMX races and beyond, as your biking evolved throughout the many years! So many wonderful memories, Sean. You were and will forever be in my heart. Love you, Audrey

REMEMBERING SEAN

The bicycle raced to its destination
no other riders were even in sight
Just the faceless rider with the angel wings
pedalling as fast as he can
The ribbon overhead and the wings extended
the angel triumphs as he passes the finish line
in full glory
A beam of light shines brilliantly
on his little cherub face

Love you Sean,

Audrey

Warm Summer Sun

Warm summer sun,
Shine kindly here,
Warm southern wind,
Blow softly here.
Green sod above,
Lie light, lie light.
Good night, dear heart,
Good night, good night.

In Loving Memory Of Sean?

We thought of you today,
?But that is nothing new.?
We thought of you yesterday?
And will tomorrow, too.
We think of you in silence?
And make no outward show.
?For what it meant to lose you?
Only those who love you know.
Remembering you is easy,?
We do it everyday.
?It's the heartache of losing you
?That will never go away.??

Our love for you will endure and our wonderful memories will provide us all with comfort. You have been a gift in our lives Sean and we are so fortunate to have known you.

Dear Aytul, Magnus, Isabela and family-

I am so deeply sorry for your loss. David was a remarkable man who cared so much about his children it was contagious. I cannot imagine not seeing him around chaperoning trips and cycling around. May the universe grant him eternal peace. Know that we are here to support in any way.

Dave, it was only this past fall that you became my coach and my friend. You and the Dave Jordan Team opened up a whole new world for me. I am forever grateful and I will always ride and bring as much to the sport as I can in your honor. I ride in your tailwind.

Dave - thanks for teaching me to be a racer. Thanks for the all the knowledge you brought to the team and fun you brought to our training. Even when the legs burned and the lungs hurt on our training sessions, it was still fun. You will be missed and never forgotten. 40-20-12. Jordan Racing will live on!

You inspired me and so many others to keep riding even when we wanted to quit. You made us dig deep into the reserves in your intense CRCA race training clinics - showing us our better selves not yet formed. You gave so many hope that we too could one day be better racers and even better people. You were a compassionate leader from the first day I met you...expecting only that we all improve to our full potential. Thank you for all your inspiration.
