Albert John Hettinger III

HETTINGER--Albert John III, died peacefully at home in Pawling, New Jersey on September 6, 2008 after a long illness. Devoted husband of Betty, father of William and James, father-in-law of Corinna and Leanna, grandfather of Caroline, Charles and Lily. Member of The Jockey Club, Trustee of The New York Racing Association and Chairman Emeritus of the Grayson Jockey Club Research Foundation. Trusted and dear friend to all who knew him. Will be greatly missed by all especially the employees and horses at Akindale Farm, a major thoroughbred facility in Pawling, New York. Substantial involvement in the transformation of Fasig-Tipton, a horse auction company, to its status as a major player in the thoroughbred industry. Extraordinary humanitarian and philanthropist whose passion for saving throroughbred racehorses from slaughter will live on long after his death through the dedication of his farm in perpetuity as a facility for horse rescue and ongoing horse care. There will be a private mass. A future celebration of his life will be planned.
