JOHN L. CIFU

CIFU--John Lewis, of Waxhaw, NC died suddenly on July 13. Born September 1, 1934 in Manhattan, the youngest of five sons of Saturnina (Saccocio) and Giovanni Cifu. He earned his undergraduate and Master's degrees in electrical Engineering from City College of New York and Columbia University. He worked for 35 years as an electrical engineer and program manager for Sperry/ Unisys in Lake Success, NY. In 1956, he married his college sweetheart, Rosa Schwarz with whom he had three sons. Rosa passed away from cancer in 1999. John met and married Hilda Uys in 2000. John is remembered by those who knew him as a lifelong Democrat, military history buff, an enthusiastic dancer and a lifelong New York sports fan. His dry sense of humor lives on in his sons and he will be remembered and missed by all who knew him. John leaves behind his loving wife Hilda; his three sons: John (and Annmarie), Dr. David (and Dr. Ingrid Prosser), and Douglas (and Melissa Lautenberg); step-children Adel, Matthys, Lenge and Amelia; grandchildren: Amanda, James, Gabriella, Isabelle, Rachel and Daniel; sisters-in-law Eileen and Loretta; and many nieces and nephews.
