LARRY ELKINS Obituary

ELKINS--Larry Ray J.D. Larry Ray Elkins J.D., 74, retired Managing Partner and member of Management Committee, Chapman and Cutler; Board Member, Lincoln Park Village; formerly of Murphysboro and Oak Park; passed away September 5, 2013. Survived by his wife of 32 years, Nancy Palm Felton-Elkins; son Charlie; step-children Kimberley and Thadford; and grandchildren Graham, Alexandra, Keleher, Grayson, Mitchell, and Kate. Graduate of Proviso East High School, Albion College (where he loved and played varsity tennis), Harvard School of Law, and University of Chicago (Master of Liberal Arts degree). An avid reader and golfer, as a member of Chikaming Country Club (Lakeside, MI), Larry became a student of the game, winning several awards and teaching members of his family (and their friends) to enjoy the sport. Larry and Nancy were worldwide travelers: hiking, camping, biking and boating-- never content to just sit and watch from the window. Larry believed that the foundation on which to build a life rested on four tenets: health, freedom, love, and money. Private family memorial service. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Larry's honor to: Albion College, 611 East Porter St, Albion, MI 49224, www.albion.edu/giving/ making-a-gift or to Adaptive Sports Center (dedicated to improving the quality of life of people with disabilities), P.O. Box 1639, Crested Butte, CO 81224. www.adaptivesports.org.

Larry introduced me to the law in 1976 when I was a very green association at Chapman and Cutler and was a wise and encouraging guide. Though I left the firm to pursue a litigation career, his lessons of attention to detail and kindness to colleagues have guided my legal career. My condolences and prayers are with you, you have been blessed to be close to such a smart and gentle soul.

difficult it is as I have also been there with Howard's passing, but I am thinking of you and sending my condolences to you
