KATE FLAX Obituary

FLAX--Kate, co-founder of Kate's Paperie, one of New York's premier paper and stationery stores, passed away peacefully on February 12, in the company of her loving family. Kate's unique spirit, zest for life, impeccable taste, and sparkling sense of humor were reflected in her business and shared with all who knew her. While she will be greatly missed, her charm, generosity, and kindness will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. Kate is survived by her husband, Leonard; sons Lionel (Jill) and Lowell (Sarah); grandson William; and beloved sister, Margaret Hitchman. A service will be held Friday, February 21 at 10:30am at the Church of St. Thomas More, 65 East 89 Street, New York, NY 10128. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you donate to a charity of your choice.

I am terribly saddened by the news of Kate's passing. I am blessed to have had the opportunity to know such a unique, kind, gental, witty woman. Kate inspired me to be at my best when I worked with the family at Kate's Third Ave. My experience there launched my career and I am forever grateful to Kate for that (and afternoon tea at her apartment lol).

I only have to say that I am grateful to have met Kate at Kate's Paperie 3rd avenue. She truely was a great woman. Always smiling, giving us love, showing us that she cared for us. That is why Kate's will always have a special place in my heart. It was great in feeling that she did not see us as her employees but a family she would have to make sure we were good. She will be missed but never forgotten. Thank you for sharing not only your time but bringing to us this wonderland of papers.

It was a privilege to have known Kate Flax. I will always remember her charm and elegance, but most of all her kindness. She had a generosity of spirit that made a lasting impact on me and for I which remain grateful many years later. May her family be comforted by happy memories and may she rest in peace.
