EMANUEL G. DEMOS

DEMOS--Emanuel George, passed away on July 4th, 2014. Born on November 7, 1938 in New Britain, Connecticut to George and Angeliki Demos, he graduated from Yale University magna cum laude, majoring in economics and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He received his Juris Doctorate from Yale Law School and clerked on the Connecticut Supreme Court. Thereafter he served on the faculty of Harvard Law School for two years. In New York, he practiced law at the firm of Shearman & Sterling and then joined the tax practice of White & Case. He then became an executive at two oil companies and a partner in several petroleum ventures. He served as the pro bono general legal counsel for the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America for the last 15 years. He also was a former president of the Archdiocesan Cathedral in New York, an Archon of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, chairman of the Cathedral School Board, a former trustee of Hellenic College and of the Archbishop Lakovos Library, and founder and President of the Kallinikeion Foundation. He also served on the advisory council of the Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies Program at Queens College. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Helen (Kocolatos) Demos, his son and daughter-in-law George and Chrysanthy Demos, a daughter, and grandsons, Michael, Emanuel, and Angelo. The viewing will be Thursday July 10th from 6 to 9pm with a Trisagion service at 7:30pm and the funeral will be Friday, July 11th at 11am, both at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral in New York at 319 East 74th Street. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Holy Trinity Cathedral.
