WILLIAM FREEMAN Obituary

FREEMAN--William G., Jr., 84, died peacefully on July 26, 2014 at his home in Mountain Lake, Lake Wales, Florida. He was born in Greenwich, Connecticut to William Goodell Freeman and Mary Fahnestock Freeman, and attended Brunswick School through ninth grade. He graduated from Phillips Academy Andover in 1948 and received his BA from Yale in 1952. While at Andover and Yale, Bill made many lifelong friends whom he cherished. Following two years in the U.S. Air Force, where he was honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant, he was employed by Texaco, working in several positions including General Manager of Marketing, Europe. A highlight of his long career with Texaco was when Bill, his wife Ruth, and their three daughters lived in Puerto Rico and Jamaica. After leaving the Caribbean in 1970, the family settled in New Canaan, Connecticut. Following his retirement from Texaco in 1988, Bill taught and coached ice hockey at Brunswick School for three years. He was an avid gardener and fisherman, coached ice hockey at the New Canaan Winter Club, and served on the Board there. A member of the Country Club of New Canaan, Bill was an enthusiastic golfer, playing as much as possible at his Florida residence, where he also served on the Board. He was a dedicated member of the Musketeers and the United States Seniors' Golf Association. Bill loved his family dearly, and will be greatly missed. Surviving are his wife Ruth of 60 years, three daughters, Ruth, Ann, and Carol, two grandsons, Stephen Schoder and William Schoder, a sister Mary Blackwell, and a brother James Freeman. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at St. Mark's Church, New Canaan, CT. Memorial gifts may be sent to: Mountain Lake Community Service, PO Box 832, Lake Wales, FL, 33859.
