RICHARD DETWILER Obituary

DETWILER--Richard Mott,

93, died December 17 in Rye Brook, NY. He was born in Lancaster, PA, June 2, 1921 to William Sanderson Detwiler and Gertrude Mott Detwiler. A graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy and Yale University, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve while an undergraduate and he served in the Pacific, landing in Nagasaki shortly after the explosion of the atomic bomb. During the Korean Conflict he served as commanding officer of the Marine Corps public information office in New York. Following a stint as a reporter and feature editor with the Rocky Mountain News, he worked in public relations at Ford, Chase National Bank, and the BBDO advertising agency in New York, where he was vice president and director of public relations when he retired. He was married to Barbara Ann Burns of New Rochelle, NY from 1951 until her death in 2011. They lived in Pelham Manor, NY where he served as a town trustee. Following his retirement, they lived in Melvin Village, NH for more than 30 years. He is survived by a daughter, Anne D. Crecraft, of Sterling, VA; sons Richard Jr., of Bronxville, NY; John B. Detwiler, of Charlotte, NC; and William S. Detwiler, of Brooklyn, NY; and eight grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 11:30am on Monday in the chapel at The Wartburg, One Wartburg Place, Mount Vernon, NY. Donations may be made to Phillips Exeter Academy, Exeter, NH.

Will be praying for the family. So sorry for your loss of this great father. He loved his family and was so smart, witty and kind. He was just a great man. He will be missed by all. We know he is in a better place.
