I was his patient for 22 years, from 1994 to 2015. I think he finally realized that dying was his only way out. Thanks, Dr. Newmark. It was quite a journey.

I can see by the posts that I am not the only one who still misses you--- I am in contact with your son, but less and less as we all grow older. What a fine man he is---very special.
You were there for me during a terribly troubled time. You even made me laugh.
I will never, ever "not" miss you.

I welcome this opportunity, to express some years after his passing, how much I still miss him. Off the charts intelligent, fall down laughing funny, and courageous-so very courageous.
Dr. Newmark's role in my 79 years stands out as major in its importance.
My best to his family.

a year has passed and, if anything, the 365 days have sharpened the loss. so many, many times when I needed your intelligence, your perception and your humor to get through a bad passage.what a lucky break to have had you in my life all those years. v

I went to Dr. Newmark for several years, and if I can share a "breakthrough": I stopped biting my nails after over a half-century of doing so. "Just put your hand down on a table for 30 seconds, and the [animalistic] urge will pass."
And there were other insights. I'm sad for his passing.

As a classmate of Mitchell's at Yale, I always admired his wit, dry humor, warmth, and ebullient spirit. He liked to introduce himself to new people as "Mitchell Vacuum Cleaner Newmark--the vacuum cleaner is silent."The last time I saw him was at graduation, but I've thought of him many times in the intervening years. Peace to his family.

I learned of Dr. Mitchell's passing through a touching story in the NY Times. http://opinionator.blogs.nytimes.com/2015/06/09/the-architecture-of-psychotherapy/?smprod=nytcore-iphone∣=nytcore-iphone-share

For 22 years my life was blessed by Dr.Newmark. Sometimes I moved away, sometimes I left the country not expecting to return. But I could always find a way to call the office, even from a phone booth on my bicycle somewhere. And He would speak to me as if I had been sitting in that office chair just a week before. It's so hard to think I won't be sharing Our Borscht Belt humor that lightened my heart so much. He became my doctor at Beth Israel medical center & He stayed with all of us; as long as he possibly could. He was a great & gifted man. And a healer

For the 18 years during which Mitch Newmark was my doctor, I was always aware that someday I would call for an appointment and he wouldn't be there. That knowledge doesn't ease the pain of loss now that it has happened a month after his death. Of course I wasn't family, and I can't even claim to be his friend. I'm just one of his many patients, and not even the one he knew the longest, as is clear from the messages in this book. But his talent and dedication saved my life and his intelligence and humor enriched it. He's the only person I've ever known who could flip from sarcasm to compassion faster than I can. I depended on him and I loved him, and he leaves a void in my life that no other doctor will ever be able to fill.

I've been a patient of Dr. Newmark's since April 2013. He was a remarkable human being, and a wonderful doctor. He was beyond generous with his time and his advice. I've never had a Psychiatrist who was so caring that he also acted as a psychoanalyst to make sure that he gave as much help as possible. He had a great sense of humor, and it as a pleasure to be with him. My sincere condolences to his family.

My counselor, mentor and liferaft for many years.
The epitome of dignity. The incarnation of resiliency.
Keats said "A thing of beauty is a joy forever; it will never pass into nothingness."

Most of all, he was a friend of mine.
