LIBBIE GERSTEN Obituary

GERSTEN--Libbie (Izen).

Beloved wife of Bobby Gersten for 71 years, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2015 at age 93. Libbie was most proud of and devoted to her family: children Sharon Luckman and Paul Shapiro, Richard and Annemiek Gersten, Jackie and Monte Ezratty, and Ron Gersten; grandchildren Melissa and David Keller, Greg and Beth Luckman, Max Gersten, Thea Gersten, Jake Ezratty, Joanna Ezratty, Ali Gersten, Robbie Gersten; and great- grandchildren Jordana and Aiden Keller, Charley and Casey Luckman, all of whom will miss her dearly. Libbie was a rock in the foundation of Brant Lake Camp documenting the history of camp through her creation of the memorabilia room, yearbooks, photography and more. In her younger years at BLC she taught archery and in 1980 co-founded the Dance Camp. She was strong, energetic, creative; a lover of travel and the arts; a dancer and dance teacher for over 20 years in Long Beach, NY. Libbie grew up in Asheville, NC, and graduated UNC Chapel Hill in 1944. She was the most wonderful, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother and friend.

My condolences to the Gersten family. She was a dear dancing teacher for many Long Beach girls. It is not surprising that I remembered her, but that, at a Long Beach reunion in Florida, she remembered me. It was just another indication of how important each individual was to her. Her memory is a blessing to all that new her.

She was a force of nature and I loved her crackly voice. The toll her illness took upon her was sad to see and very hard for those who loved her, I'm sure. May she rest in peace. She more than did her part!
