Died peacefully March 18, 2016 in Palm Beach, Florida. Born in Manhattan on November 22, 1923, Bob was the third generation president of James Thompson and Company (founded in 1860) basic textile weavers and finishers, where he took great pride in developing new products that used his fabrics. He was a graduate of The Horace Mann School (1941) and Yale (1945). During World War II, Bob was a naval officer and made multiple voyages across the Atlantic on destroyer escort ships. An avid golfer, Bob belonged to Quaker Ridge Golf Club for over 70 years and served as president from 1981-83. He was secretary of his class at Yale and active in the 100 Years Association. He adored Sun Valley, where he and his wife Eileen summered for over 30 years. Bob will be remembered for his quick wit, intellectual curiosity, warmth, and charm. He loved orchids, fine food, socializing and traveling the world. Always cutting a dashing figure, Bob amazed everyone with his incredibly youthful appearance. Bob will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife Eileen Weiler, his daughters Debra Mamorsky (Jeffrey), Tera Judell, Andrea Markowitz (Alan), his step- children Pamela Grayson (Douglas), Andrew Weiler (Cecilia) and eight grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Temple Emanu-El, Fifth Avenue at 65th Street, Monday, April 4th at 4pm.
