GERALD WALPIN Obituary

WALPIN--Gerald,

suddenly on June 24, 2016 after being struck by a car. He is remembered as a man of integrity, who, even when he retired, never stopped practicing law. He always liked a good debate, was logical and committed to his positions, but was respected by those whose point of view was completely counter to his own. His achievements were admirable -- he was a graduate from City College of New York and Yale Law School, clerked for two federal judges, served in the Air Force, served as an US ADA in the Southern District, was the head of litigation at Rosenman Colin, was the IG of the Corporation for National and Community Service, authored a book on the Constitution and lectured across the country. But most important of all was his family, his beloved wife of almost 60 years, Sheila, his three children, Amanda, Edward and Jennifer, his son-in-law, Allan, and daughter-in-law, Cynthia, and the pride and joy of his life, his six grandchildren, Justin, Dylan, Jacob, Sophie, Carrie and Alexandra. Service Tuesday, June 28 at 12:00 at "The Riverside," 76 St. and Amsterdam Ave. Donations in his memory may be made to the Federalist Society or the Intrepid Museum.

I will miss Gerry - so sudden an extinguishing of an explicit voice. Time will underscore his successes and give cogency to his causes. His statements were clear and he meant what he said.... a beacon for his profession. Arthur and Marilyn Penn

HI SHEILA-- This is Raea- Penny and Ernie Schumtzlers' niece in Washington, DC. I am so saddened to hear of the untimely passing of your husband. Your family is very dear to Ernie and Penny, and i have enjoyed getting to know your family because of them. I will never forget his generosity and kindness... including when he agreed to appear on my then budding radio show at a time when he was not granting media interviews. He lived a full and richly accomplished life, most notably crowned with you and his children. Many blessings...

So sorry for your loss. I enjoyed him so much, he was always a welcome sight at the University Club and I was looking forward to seeing him this Wednesday when he was to interview Peggy Noonan.....thoughts and prayers are with you, Sheila. Jane Ridolfi
