MAURICE GALLI

GALLI--Maurice Pierre, age 87, died Thursday, August 4th, following respiratory complications. He is survived by his daughter, Myriam Galli and his grandsons Julian and Jake. The jewelry industry mourns a design legend today. Maurice's illustrious career includes Harry Winston, David Webb, Van Cleef and Arpel, Tiffany & Co., where he designed pieces for the likes of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Leona Helmsley, just to name a few. In 2009 Maurice redesigned the setting for the Hope diamond on exhibit at the Smithsonian. Maurice shared his enormous talent by becoming an adjunct teacher at F.I.T., where he taught jewelry design and inspired many young designers. In 1994 Maurice and fellow designers Dominique Riviere and FanFan Li published the first of three of their Jewelry Design books. Known for his signature Panama hat and cigar, Maurice will always be remembered for his joie de vivre, and his constant desire to make the world laugh. A Memorial service will be held Friday, August 12th, 11:30 am at Frank Campbell Funeral Home, 1076 Madison Avenue, New York. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Children's International would be deeply appreciated.
