Helene Abramowitz Obituary
Helene Abramowitz (b 12/24/55) died by suicide on June 23, 2017 in New York City. Her parents, Anita (Stern) Abramowitz and Murray Abramowitz predeceased her. Helene graduated from Swarthmore College and briefly attended law school in Washington DC. She returned to live in New York City where she freelanced as a proofreader and medical editor.
As a volunteer with New York Cares she coached job seekers through interview prep, supported the city's library projects and helped secure clothing for impoverished children. She is remembered for her sense of humor.
Helene is survived by her second cousins, Norbert Jay and his wife Donna Langenbahn of New York City; and Leslie Jay Gould and her husband Arnold Gould both formerly of NYC and now of Wellington, FL. Also third cousins Loretta Jay of Fairfield, CT and Sarah Jay of Brooklyn, NY.
A memorial gathering will be held at the Unitarian Church of All Souls on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at 6:30pm, 1157 Lexington Ave, New York, NY.
