I just learned of Gary's passing. I met Gary as an upperclassman at Columbia in 1964; I was a freshman. Gary was a wonderful friend and mentor. Unfortunately, Gary and I lost touch when I joined the Army and then moved to Virginia. In my retirement, I had hoped to get back in touch. Instead Gary will be in my prayers.

I knew Gary as "Judge Sperling" from his days as a NYC ALJ. He was always pleasant to appear before. On occasion we spoke of other matters and I always enjoyed our personal discussions. My heartfelt condolences to his wife and daughter on his passing.

Our family knew Gary as Judge Sperling from his days as an Administrative Law Judge in NYC. Although we haven't spoken for years, we remember him as a remarkable jurist. One always willing to listen to an argument, think about it, and render a fair, capable decision, based on facts and law.
On a personal level, his love for family and baseball was always discussed.
Our condolences to his family. He will be missed.
