Douglas Bushnell Obituary

BUSHNELL--Douglas Fountain, passed away peacefully at his home in Hopewell, New Jersey, on December 16, 2007. Born December 4, 1920 in Browntown, New Jersey, he graduated from Rutgers College, and served in a bomb disposal unit in the Navy in World War II. He worked for many years for the American Express Company. He married Margaret Meeker in 1946. After her death in 1970, he married Betty Wold Johnson in 1978. In addition to his wife Betty, he is survived by his sons David and Michael, their spouses Kim and Vera, his daughter, Rebecca, and her spouse John, and his stepchildren Robert, Elizabeth, and Christopher Johnson, and his wife Jane, and 17 grandchildren. Life, for him was a great adventure, and he enjoyed everything he did. He will be remembered by his family and friends for his extraordinary kindness and thoughtfulness. Equally at home on his tractor or the dance floor, he was a consummate gentleman. There will be a memorial service at Princeton University Chapel on December 27, at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made, in his name, to SAVE Princeton Small Animal Rescue League, 900 Herrontown Rd, Princeton, NJ 08540 (www.save-animals.org) or the charity of your choice. Services are under the direction of the Mather-Hodge Funeral Home, Princeton.

mr. bushnell was a gracious, charming and humorous man. whenever i would see him at my place of business, i couldn't help but smile at my good fortune to know him. he always had a good story, listened so carefully and would give advice freely and with great joy.

i will miss him very much.
