Charles Flickinger Obituary

Charles Edward "Ted" Flickinger Jr., 86, of McLean, Va., formerly of Claysville, died Monday, June 5, 2017.
He was born December 8, 1930, in Erie, a son of the late Charles E. Flickinger Sr. and Evelyn "Peg" Hastings.
He grew up in Altoona, graduated from Penn State and Yale universities and served in the U.S. Army.
He worked in communications for the Central Intelligence Agency, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Carnegie Mellon University, University of Pittsburgh and Peoples Natural Gas and as an educator, primarily of English, for several high schools and community colleges in the tri-state area.
He was active in Buffalo Creek Watershed group and enjoyed tennis, woodworking, the outdoors, birding, music and conga drumming and fine arts.
He was the husband of the late June Anderson Flickinger for 45 years, brother of Susan Flickinger Rouse of Fredericksburg, Va.; father of Charles E. Flickinger III of Nellysford, Va., Mark Flickinger of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Valerie Flickinger Sayd of Falls Church, Va.; and grandfather of Nya Flickinger and Samia and Ayla Sayd.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in William G. Neal Funeral Home, 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, PA 15301, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday. Burial will follow at Jefferson Memorial Park.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 17, from noon to 2 p.m. at Lewinsville Retirement Residence, 1515 Great Falls Street, McLean.
