ANNAWILDA NORRIS
Ocala - Annawilda (Anne) Norris Tomyn, died peacefully at her residence, Emeritus Assisted Living Facility, on January 20, 2014, just ten days shy of her 98th birthday.
Born in Henderson, Kentucky on January 30, 1916, "Missionary Anne," as she was known by many, was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Coach Bill Tomyn and her first born son, Billy.
Anne grew up in Bradenton, Florida and Lake Toxaway, North Carolina and then graduated from Florida State College for Women in 1937 with certification to teach. Her teaching career took her from Winter Garden and Tavares, Florida to East Marion School and Reddick School after which she spent many years as the founder and director of Highlands Baptist Kindergarten and later director of First Baptist Church Kindergarten.
A dedicated member of the local, state and national Baptist Women's Missionary Union, Anne's faith in Jesus was the cornerstone of her productive and rewarding life. She participated in several mission trips to South Florida, South Dakota, North Carolina and Montana and always saw her Ocala hometown as a place to witness for her Savior. Being an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and her participation in the Elder Hostel organization were other claims to fame of which she was most proud.
Mrs. Tomyn is survived by her two sons, Seton (Marcie) Tomyn of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee and George (Barbara) Tomyn of Ocala; six grandchildren: David Tomyn, Mary (David) Blackburn, Claire Tomyn, Daniel (Nicole) Tomyn, Carrie (Greg) Minerva and Elizabeth Tomyn, and one great grandson, Austin Tomyn.
In her careful planning for her journey to heaven and making suggestions for her obituary she was very clear: "Boil it all down to a few lines and give all the glory to Christ, my Savior and God, my ever present Guide."
Visitation will be held at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Home, 910 E. Silver Springs Blvd., on Friday, January 24, 6:00-8:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at Woodside Baptist Church, 2450 N.E. 28th St., Ocala on Saturday, January 25 at 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions to the Lottie Moon Mission Offering in care of Woodside Baptist Church or to your favorite charity are welcomed and appreciated.

I just learned of Mrs. Tomyn's passing and wanted to say what an honor it was for me to meet and know your Mother. As you know, we became very good friends. She taught me a lot of life lessons and for that and her sweet friendship, I will always be grateful. Please accept my sincerest condolences for your loss.

My wife and I just learned today of Mrs. Tomyn's passing into the arms of Jesus. Our sincere condolences go out to her sons and family members. I first met Mrs. Tomyn when I was only 5-years old - she was my kindergarten teacher at Highlands, and I remember fondly her wise and loving oversight of me and my other precocious classmates there. I believe that she also taught my Vacation Bible School class at Highlands Baptist Church where she tried diligently, but without much success, to teach me about Jesus. Many years of walking in darkness passed before I would come back into contact with Mrs. Tomyn in the late 90's - this time as a born-again Christian and would-be missionary looking for faithful prayer warriors - of which she has been for us for many years. I have no doubt that, because of the prayers that Mrs. Tomyn lifted to heaven for her young students more than 50 years ago, I am alive and well today, and in service as a missionary for King Jesus. May the Lord bless and heal your family as you mourn your loss and rejoice her passing into His presence.

I am truly inspired and humbled after reading this short biography of Mrs. Annawilda Tomyn. What a blessing and inspiration she was, and still is, to literally thousands of people. She is in Heaven now and in the arms of Jesus, but her presence on Earth will forever be remembered.

Mrs. Tomyn never had to be asked if she were a Christian, it was very evident by here actions and words. Her and Coach were a wonderful couple, both of whom I'll never forget.
