Ocala - Col. George E. Pigott, a resident of On Top of the World passed into everlasting life on June 11, 2011. He was the son of Arlie Mae Harbert Pigott and Byron Fletcher Pigott, born February 10, 1916 at Bingamon Junction, Marion County, West Virginia. Col. Pigott graduated from Fairmont State College, Fairmont, WV and then was employed by the Fairmont Times - West Virginian newspapers. He was also advertising manager of the Inter-Mountain Newspaper at Elkins, WV. Col. Pigott was retired from the U.S. Air Force after serving as a Pilot for 30 years. During WWII he flew 39 combat missions in the China, Burma, India Theatre of Operations flying over the Himalayas, known as "flying the hump". He was married for 57 years to Jean-Marie Lambiotte Pigott, who survives and they have one daughter, Susan Lynn Pigott Windsor and her husband Kirk Windsor of Ashburn, VA; granddaughters Kimberly Sue Tafuri, Brooklyn, NY and Amy Lynn Gwinner, Cross Junction, VA. Col. Pigott is also survived by nephews, Dr. John Wilfong, Edward Wilfong, David Wilfong and Charles Joseph Lambiotte; a brother-in-law, Brent Ashley Lambiotte and one cousin, Martha Jane Harbert Westfall. Col. Pigott's last duty station was at Charleston, WV, flying C-141's and C-130 cargo planes for the Air National Guard. After retiring, he became Director General of the Mountain State Forest Festival at Elkins, WV. Memorial Service will be held at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, TimberRidge Chapel, on Friday, June 17th at 11:00 a.m. with committal at Florida National Cemetery at 2:00 p.m., with Military Honors provided by Angela Santos Post #4781.
