The Villages - Frederick Rohde, 92, passed away on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at the Cornerstone Hospice facility in The Villages, FL.
He was born on Staten Island, NY on December 14, 1920 to parents Frederick Leonard Rohde and Stephanie Otillie Keller Rohde.
He served in the Army Air Corps flying in B-24's and completed 47 bombing missions in the China Burma India (CBI) Theatre. He received two Distinguished Flying Crosses (DFC) and two Air Medals. After World War II he became a NYC Firefighter and retired in 1963 with 21 years of service. He then became a building engineer for Cities Service at 52 Wall Street in Manhattan and retired again in 1983.
From 1983-1989 he was a Staten Island neighborhood handyman until he and his wife of 49 years (Carol Belle Smith Rohde) became Florida snowbirds in 1989 moving to On Top of the World (OTOW) in Ocala, Florida spending winter months in Florida and summers in New York. He became a Florida fulltime resident in 1993. He moved to Emeritus Assisted Living in 2006, to The Bridge Assisted Living Facility in 2010, and to The Springs of Lady Lake in 2012. Throughout his married life (1947-1996) he spent his spare time on the water boating and sailing during the summer months.
He is survived by his only child Stephanie Keller Rohde of Ocala, Florida and nieces and nephews throughout the United States.

Wow so sorry to hear of the passing of Mr Rhode, I work at the bridge assisted living and was his housekeeper and thought so very highly of him. I am very saddened by his passing but he is in good hands. My thoughts are with the family.
