Noreen Haney Koeniger

Ocala - Noreen Haney Koeniger of Ocala died on September 28, 2017, 11 days before her 91st birthday. Born in Derby, England on October 7, 1927, she grew up in Drummondville, Quebec. Noreen graduated from McGill University in Canada with a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Chemistry. She was a standout player on the women's tennis team during all four years at McGill. A competitive U.S. tennis player at a national level, her greatest achievement was defeating Maureen Connolly in California at the 1947 tournament.
She was an avid learner and always attentive to her family. She loved her garden and animals, especially Miley. She spent much of her married life enjoying friends and golf at Panther Valley Country Club in Hackettstown, NJ. She was always happiest spending time with her family. She had a quick wit, a kind spirit and a love of sports - especially the New York Yankees.
Mrs. Koeniger is predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years, James K. Koeniger.
She is survived by her beloved daughter, Nancy Stewart (Don) of Ocala; sons, James Koeniger Jr. (Terry) of Hackettstown, NJ and Scott Koeniger (Lynne) of Charlotte, NC. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Interment will be held at 10:00a.m. on Monday, October 9, 2017 at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Ocala. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to Hospice of Marion County or the Humane Society of Marion County.
