Scott Taylor Obituary

COPLEY -- Scott F. Taylor, 40, died unexpectedly on Friday, May 18, 2012. Scott was a 1990 graduate of Walsh Jesuit High School where he played basketball, served as team captain, and was a member of National Honor Society. He went on to earn his Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of Akron where he also played basketball. He earned his Master's Degree from the University of Tennessee in 1997, and his Juris Doctor from the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, Cleveland State University in 2005. During his working career he coached college basketball in Tennessee and Mississippi, and was a pharmaceutical representative for AstraZeneca. Most recently he served as Director of Development for the College of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering at the University of Akron where he was well respected and well-liked by friends and colleagues and will be remembered as a person of high character.

Scott will also be remembered by his many friends and relatives for his unique sense of humor, quick wit, outgoing personality and his lifelong quest to better educate and reinvent himself.

Scott loved Tennessee football, enjoyed cooking, and could quote an appropriate movie line for any situation.

He will be sadly missed by parents, Bob and Judy Taylor; brother, Rob (Colette) Taylor; aunt and uncle, Jane and Kent Taylor; cousins, Chip (Diane) Taylor and Julie (Mitch) Given; and his little buddy, Smokey.

Friends are invited to the Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 1930 Front St., Cuyahoga Falls, for visitation on Friday, May 25, from noon until 2 p.m., and a memorial service at 2 p.m., Rev. Paul Sartarelli officiating. In lieu of flowers, a donation to your favorite charity in Scott's name would be appreciated.

Mr. and Mrs. Taylor & Rob,
I just learned of Scooter's passing and am so sorry. While I wasn't a teammate at Walsh, I was involved in the basketball program there from 1985-1988. I truly enjoyed knowing Scooter and pray that his spirit lives on. God bless you all.

Speachless that such a great man has been taken. To know him, you had to love him. Grateful to have known him since our high school years, regretful we didn't stay more in touch after our college years. But the memories and many laughs are priceless. May a little bit of Scooter's personality be in us all.

Mr. and Mrs. Taylor, Robbie just reached out to me and let me know the awful news. Scooter was such a big part of my friendship with Rob all through high school. We always laughed, and never missed a beat each time we saw each other long after high school. I will truly miss him and love all of you. You have our thoughts and prayers.

To the Taylor Family,
The memories I have of your Scott are very special ones:) Our family came to know him as "Scooter" when he was the assistant Mens Basketball coach at Roane State Community College in Tennessee. My son David was on the team and would invite Scott into our home on the weekends. He ate many meals at our table and would affectionately call me "Ma Vess". Scott would also attend church with us on occasion. One particular Sunday, Scooter walked the isle and trusted Jesus Christ to be his personal Savior!
When David called to tell me of Scooters passing, my thoughts ran to the day that he made peace with God! Your family has been in my thoughts and prayers. May the "God of all comfort" wrap His loving arms of grace around you at this time.

Sincerely,
Joyce V. Weaver

To the Taylor Family,

I worked with Scott at Burke and Vannucci while he was in law school. He and I spent many afternoons talking movies and laughing. I had only been in contact with him a few times since then but always enjoyed hearing from him. He was a warm, wonderful and caring person and very very funny. I will miss him very much.

You are in my prayers at this difficult time.

To the Taylor Family,

I was so saddened to hear of Scott's passing. I have worked with Scott at The University of Akron for almost 5 years. He always could make me smile and shake my head at the same time! That "Scott Taylor" humor!

He called me by my maiden name "Bee" all the time--I'm sure just to pester! I'm sure he pestered you all for fun too!

Hold on to those times. Those times and the conversations we shared are what I will recall and smile.

May God be with you all during this time and always!

Taylor Family,

I first met 'Scooter' when he played for the Zips -- I worked in the Athletics Department at the time. I recall him as a very fun, carefree young kid. Our paths then crossed again later in life when he became employed by the University.

The issue I always had with Scott was the Walsh thing -- I'm a St. V-M graduate, and we would always exchange barbs. Scott was better than I (very funny...too quick for me, and much smarter), even though he went to the 'wrong' school.

Scott's loss is a real tragedy. Gone way too soon. I will keep the Taylors and Scooter in my prayers. My heartfelt condolences.

God's peace.

May eternal rest be granted unto Scott by our Lord, Jesus Christ. "Wit" and "infectious smile" were the first words that came to mind when I thought of Scooter yesterday. Next came "sandwich" and "strong!" These words we shared on several mornings at the Akron U. McD's - brief but meaningful visits. I am so grateful I saw Scott the last time Rush was in town. Rob, Colette, Bob, and Judy, Chip - all those who were touched by Scott...our prayers are with you during this time of extreme loss. I pray for the peace that only the Lord can bring all of you. Scooter was a joy to be around, as are all the Taylors.

Sincerely,

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Taylor, Rob & Colette -
Scott was the Development Officer for our College of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering. He was such an imposing figure and, because of his outgoing personality and sense of humor, he was always welcomed in this office.

Scott will be truly missed by many, many of us who knew him as a true friend. He was a joy to talk with and I always looked forward to the pictures he would send me of "Smokey", one of which still hangs on the wall in our workroom.

Please accept my deepest and most heartfelt sympathy. May God comfort you in your terrible loss.
