Marjorie Carmany Obituary

Marjorie Mae Carmany, 91 passed away Sunday, December 13, 2009, surrounded by family, after declining health.

She was born November 15, 1918 to the late Lloyd and Ruth (Williams) Dickerhoof and raised in Barberton. She graduated from Barberton High School in 1937. She married John Carmany on April 11, 1941. Before she was married, she worked at Sun Rubber Co., painting doll faces. During World War II while John was in Germany, she worked at Goodyear Plant D as a "Rosie the Riveter." She counted telephone calls at the Manchester Telephone Co. and retired from the Manchester Schools, as a Senior Cook in 1978, with 26 years of service.

She was always grateful to her in-laws, Harry and Elizabeth Carmany, who she always called Dad and Mom, for taking her in during the war during the three years that John was in the service. She acquired four brothers and one sister during that time. She was also thankful for John's uncle Howard and aunt Mayme Miller who were very kind to her. She didn't have a car and uncle Howard was there to transport her to the hospital in Massillon to see her infant son, Tom, while he was there for three weeks, when gas was rationed during the war.

Preceded in death by her parents; brother, Raymond; and husband, John Carmany; she is survived by sons, James E. (Barbara) Carmany and Thomas D. (Judy) Carmany; grandchildren, Patty (Doug) Orahood, James E. (Nancy) Carmany, Jr., John D. Carmany, Jacob J. (Danielle) Carmany and Shannon Carmany; great-grandchildren, Haylee Carmany, Jimmy Carmany III, John Thomas Orahood, Ashley Carmany and Andrew Orahood; and many cousins.

Marge was an animal lover and was known to take in strays and even to feed many neighborhood animals as they crossed her back door.

Funeral service THURSDAY 11 a.m. at the Swigart-Easterling Funeral Home, 624 East Cherry St. (Rt.93, Canal Fulton) with Gary Maibach officiating. Burial Manchester Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home WEDNESDAY 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Akron, 4904 Quick Road, Peninsula, OH 44264.

Jim and Barb and family. We were saddened to hear of you mom and grandma's passing. What a legacy she leaves. I wish that I would have known her. She sounded like such an interesting lady and would have such neat stories to tell. What a wonderful tribute you wrote. I have heard many times what a lovely lady she was.

Well Mom you have your wish and are now with Dad. Our only regret for you is that you weren't able to be in your own home as you wished for awhile now. We love you and will miss you but we have all the memories. Until we meet again, Love,

Jim and Tom,
I'm so sorry to hear about your mom. Even though I didn't see her much while she was in the nursing home, she was in my prayers constantly and I thought of her often. I loved all the great talks we had while she decorated the graves in the cemetery. Your mom was always full of wonderful stories to tell me and I loved hearing each and every one. May your good memories keep you company in the hard days ahead.
