Alfred Sturgeon Obituary

``THEN AND NOW'

Alfred Roy Sturgeon

Alfred Roy Sturgeon, 85, of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, was beckoned by God's Angels on May 3, 2011 after a courageous and dignified battle with cancer.

Mr. Sturgeon was born on January 27, 1926 in Tell City, Indiana and resided in nearby Bristow for over 30 years. He relocated to Detroit and lived there until 1967 when he moved to Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. He retired from Massey Ferguson in October of 1983 with 28 years of dedicated service. At the age of 18, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was honored with the following decorations and citations: Purple Heart, Oak Leaf Cluster, two Bronze Stars, Combat Infantry Medal, and Eastern European Theatre Ribbon. During military combat, he survived an ambush in which he suffered multiple injuries. Through the years, he shared his remarkable testimonial of how his life was spared when a shell fragment lodged into a bible which he was carrying in his shirt pocket.

Preceded in death by his loving wife of 51 years, Ella (Van Hoosier) Sturgeon; granddaughter, Danyel Hayes; parents, George and Martha (Hobbs) Sturgeon; sister, Lillian Kleeman; brothers, Melvin, Norman, Isaac, Shelvy and Trevy; he is survived by daughters, Janette (Douglas) Brooks, Cheyrl (Mark) Kneram of Cuyahoga Falls, Star Tryon of Ravenna; sons, Michael Sturgeon, Richard (Terri) Sturgeon of Tallmadge; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grand-children; four great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty Van Hoosier of Cuyahoga Falls and Juanita Hagedorn of Fort Wayne.

Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Billow FALLS Chapel, 1907 23rd St., (corner of 23rd St. and Falls Ave.), Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44223. Private family services will be held with interment at Northlawn Memorial Gardens. (Billow Falls Chapel)

My Sweet Paw Paw,

There are no words that can express
what you meant to me.
My heart is overflowing with
so many memories.

I remember as a child
hearing the stories that you told,
my eyes were fixed upon you
as each tale you would unfold.

The little ways you showed me
how much you really cared.
A poke, a pat on the shoulder, a pinch on my arm
when I was unprepared.

The little tricks you played on me,
that made you laugh hysterically.
The Bingo numbers that you missed,
that made you so dag gone...mad.
(Not the word I was thinking)

The time you took our lottery ticket
to see if it was a winner,
Then darted to the other room and
lied like a sinner. ( He told us it was a loser)

Wheel of fortune, The Price is right,
Reeses and Oreos you ate all night.
Pizza Rolls and the cards we played,
the many late nights we stayed.

There are just too many memories
for me to list.
For that reason alone
you will be missed.

Thank you for all that you have done,
to make my life a happy one.
Please kiss Nan and Danyel for me,
the other missing members of my family tree.

Until the day we meet again,
watch me from heaven,
and throw a penny down,
now and then.
Your Grand-daughter Debbie Doo
