Russel Neal Obituary

Russel Clifford Neal, Sr. answered the call of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 29th, 2011 at Akron City Hospital, Akron, Ohio.

He was born on July 4, 1936 in Akron, Ohio to Jessie Marie Jones Neal and Clifford Eugene Neal. His formal education was through the Akron Public Schools which included being a proud graduate of South High School. He furthered his education at Akron University, Kent State University and Columbia University where his course of study was Business, Marketing and Real Estate.

Russel displayed his commitment to Christ's teaching by serving the lost, homeless, hungry, abandoned, handicapped, and addicted. He and his wife Carolyn founded ``Neal's House Of Hope, Inc.' a non- profit ministry that enabled him to fulfill his goals.

Russel's love of Christ fueled his untiring commitment to his church family and the Prince Of Peace Missionary Baptist Church. He served as an ordained deacon, chairman of the Trustee Board, member of the adult choir, male chorus, mass choir and assistant superintendant of the Sunday School. In 1977, he was honored as Father Of The Year by the church.

For over 56 years, Russel's involvement in the real estate industry fulfilled his passion for working and serving people. In 2005, Russ founded his own brokerage, Russ Neal Real Estate and Management, Inc. in Akron, Ohio. He has served on various committees and held leadership positions in the National Association of Real Estate Brokers (NAREB), The Real Estate Management Brokers Institute, Inc (REMBI) and the Akron Area Board of Realtors (AABOR).

In 1976, Russel and Vernon Neal (first cousin and brother-in-law) started their first business, Eskimo Joe's ice cream stand. In 1987, Russel and Vernon founded Neal Productions, Unlimited, Inc.

Russel had previously served as Past President of the Portage Lakes Rotary, the Fair Housing Contact Service, Board of Realtors Equal Opportunity Forum, and the Ohio Association of Real Estate Brokers. He also was a member of Community Housing Resource Board. Russel was a Golden Heritage and Gold life member of the NAACP and Mt. Calvary Lodge #76.

Russel was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Clifford Neal; his brother, Herbert E. Neal, Sr.; his niece, Detta Neal; nephew, Richard Foster; brother-in-law, Robert D. Lynch; aunt and uncle, Jettie and Charles Neal. Mrs. Neal,
I recently learned about the passing of your husband. I am so sorry for your loss. I didn't have the pleasure of meeting Mr. Neal, but from all of the stories I have heard from our friend Dennis, he sounds like a wonderful man and an earthly angel to so many people. May God comfort you with all of the wonderful memories you have been blessed with through out the years. You're in my thoughts and prayers.

BUT I THINK OF CHILD HOOD MEMORIES SUCH AS THE BIG BROWN TEDDY BEARS YOU BROUGHT AND ESPECIALLY THE GREEN HULA HOOPS WE THOUGHT YOU WERE THE BEST BROTHER EVER! AS I PLAY THE GOSPEL SONG THANK YOU BY DOTTIE PEOPLES,AND ONE VERSE SAYS CAN YOU THINK OF ONE THING THAT THE LORD HAS DONE FOR YOU, I ASKED THE LORD IF I COULD HEAR YOUR VOICE ONE MORE TIME AND DOLLY PLAYED A VOICE MAIL THAT YOU HAD LEFT HER. To the Neal Family,

It has been over 40 years since I left Akron, and nearly as long since I last saw Russel. I knew and grew fond of many people during my years in Akron, but none were more memorable than Rus Neal.

Always affable, always upbeat, always greeting me warmly with that big smile that was his alone, I have carried my memories of Russel through the years, and with great appreciation for the spiritual uplift with which he always left me.

May my old friend rest in peace until we meet again. And, may all of us who knew Russel celebrate his memory by following the standard he set for love of family, commitment to community, and honor he brought to the God he so uniquely served.

I had the pleasure of befriending and working with Russel when I first started in the Real Estate Career in Akron Ohio.
We coordinated and shared many functions while servinbg in NAREB (The Ultimate Trade Organization for People of Color in trhe Housing Industry) We were officers in numerous
functions and celebrations. Russel will be missed because he was involved
very deeply when it came to fairness and participation in the industry. He was a devoted husband, father, churchworker and a spearheader in keeping abreast of the changes in the industry that affected fellow agents
and client that he served. Fellow appraisers and property managers benefitted handsomely from his expertise and departed knowledge gained from his positions with the top level "Powers-That-be" in Fair Marketing . I will miss "Russ"

Carolyn and Family,

It will be the little things
that you will remember,
the quiet moments,
the smiles, the laughter.
And although it may seem
hard right now,
it will be the memories
of these little things
that help to push
away the pain
and bring the smiles
back again.
At a time like this,
we are at a loss for words
to express our condolence
to someone who has lost a loved one.
How to say it to bring comfort?
How to say that we care?
How to say that we understand?
Words, however kind,
can't mend your heartache:
but those who care and
share your loss wish you
comfort and peace of mind.
May you find strength
in the love of family
and in the warm embrace
of friends. May God keep you all safe and from harm in His loving arms until you meet and see Russ once again...
Your Sister in Christ Linda Hahn

June 2, 2011

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
