Elaine G. Johnson, 86, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2009.
She was born March 13, 1923 in Romney, W. Virginia, the daughter of Dick and Oleta (Heath) Doman.
After high school, Elaine moved to Washington, D.C., where she worked at the Pentagon during World War II. It was here that she married her high school sweetheart, Robert W. Johnson and had two daughters. After returning to Romney, the family increased by a third daughter and finally a son. In 1956, Elaine moved with her husband and family to Akron, Ohio where she continued to raise her children. In the 1960's, she began working for Clarkins where she became the first woman buyer for eleven stores in Northeastern Ohio. She retired in 1980. Elaine loved going to the Hartville Flea Market to sell items and visit with her "flea market buddies." She took great pride in Firestone Park and her home, winning many Keep Akron Beautiful Awards.
Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. Johnson in 1996; her sister, Jerry Kuykendall of Moorefield, West Virginia; and her brother, Jim Doman of Romney, West Virginia. She is survived by her children, Constance (Kenneth) Korosec of Chesterland, Ohio, Barbara (Thomas) Cook of Portage Lakes, Ohio, Deborah Rogers of Phoenix, Arizona and Bob, Jr. (Dorothy) Johnson of Tallmadge, Ohio. Elaine was very proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Jason (Tana) Korosec, Jill Korosec (Victor) Elswick and Hudson, Emily and Ethan, Rob Wagner, Erin Wagner Theodoro, Gretchen Wagner (Sean) Currie and Jenna, Ben and Kendra, Deana Rogers, Deric Rogers, Jessica Johnson and Kaiden and Matt Johnson. I am so glad I had the gift of knowing Elaine she was such a wonderful neighbor and friend to our family. She always came over to talk to me when I was attempting yard work and encourage me because I was pretty sure I wasn't doing it right! My deepest sympathies are with all of you
