Shirley Gareri Obituary

Shirley A. Gareri (nee Steckler)

Shirley A. Gareri, of Cuyahoga Falls, passed away Sept. 7, 2009.

She was born on Oct. 30, 1935 in Mt. Vernon, Ohio. She graduated from Kent State University and for thirty years she was a dietician. The loves of her life were her grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her husband, Aurelio, she will be sadly missed by her sons, Mark (Cindy) of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Fredrick (Shelley) of Akron; sister, Barb (Roger) Berle of Prescott, Ariz.; grandchildren, A.J., Luke, Wyatt and Taylor.

Calling hours Thursday, Sept. 10th from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Ciriello and Carr Falls Chapel (810 Portage Tr.). Mass of Christian Burial 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, where she was a member. Interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to Myasthenia Gravis Foundation c/o 810 Portage Tr., Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221.

Fred, Mark and your families. We are so sorry to hear about the passing of your mother, Shirley. We have so many great memories of your Mom and Dad in just the short time we knew them as our neighbors and friends on Roanoke Ave. They were both great people and the both of them are greatly missed.

So sorry to hear about your mom. She worked with my grandma years ago, and was one of those people you just don't forget. She paid me a compliment once that was so thoughtful, it stuck with me to this day more than 20 years later.

Dear Mark and Fred and family,

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to all during this time of such sorrow in your family. I too am a dietitian and have worked with your mom over the past many years. She so generously gave me a few of her homes when she decided to work at Massillon Community Hospital. When we would get together at meetings, she would alwys speak so highly of her boys and grandchildren. I will miss her smiling face and her up-beat attitude.

I had the pleasure of meeting Shirley when I was her home care nurse. I always looked forward to our visits. Even on some of her bad days, she always had a smile for me. What a sweet and kind lady she was. I am sure you will all miss her. She spoke highly of her family, especially her grandchildren. May God hold you close during these very sad days.

To the Gareri Family,
Sending sympathy on the loss of your dear mother. I am Katherine Percoco's daughter. My Mom was a 1st cousin to your dad. Shirley was always such a happy woman. At your dad's wake, she was so happy to see me and it had been many years since i had seen her. I remember your parents' wedding in Mt. Vernon....i danced with your dad and i was only 13! Know your mom is reunited with your dad again. May you feel the comfort of our giving Lord's loving embrace. I am unable to come down for the wake or funeral.

So glad you came into our family Fred, as you brought with you two wonderful friends in your mom and dad. We will miss your mom at all our "family" functions. And I know all eight of our grandchildren feel they just lost a grandma. Luke and A.J. were not alone in their love of "Grandma Shirley". It is wonderful though that we KNOW we will see her again as she loved the Lord as we all do.
Our condolences to Aunt Barb, Mark, Shelley, Fred, Luke and A.J.

May Christ hold you in His arms and comfort you.

We will miss Shirley so much! She was a very kind special lady. She was always there for us lending out a helping hand, and acting as subsitute Grandma for Nick. She was such a wonderful Grandma to Luke and A.J. I don't think she ever missed a school event or sports event until she fell ill. We will miss her very much! Thanks for sharing her with us Fred!

Fred and Shelley,
We're so sorry for your loss. We have seen first hand what a terrific son and daughter-in-law you were to your mom. She was very lucky to be close to your family and I'm sure her quality time with your kids helped her live a longer happier life. Our prayers are with you and the boys.
Love,
Cindy and Chris
