Sol Davis Obituary

Sol Davis, Jr. was born July 29, 1928 in Somerville Alabama. He was one of fifteen children born to Sol and Maggie Emerson Davis, Sr. Sol Davis Jr. of Akron, Ohio past away September 4, 2012. He passed away at the Parkeast Nursing Home in Beachwood, Ohio after an extended and brave fight against Alzheimer related disease.

He was baptized at an early age and became a member of St. John Baptist Church in Somerville, Alabama. He attended St. John elementary school and Morgan County Training school. He served in the United States Army and was station at West Point. He enjoyed playing baseball on the Bluff City Community Baseball Team, card games and was a self-taught carpenter. He was very helpful in the community and his family with his self-taught skills and recreational activities. He moved to Ohio after completing his military service. He married his home town sweetheart, Inez Stewart Davis. From this union three children was born. He was employed by Ford Motor Company in Brookpark, Ohio retiring after 29 years of service. He loved the family reunion. He was a sharp dresser who never wore tennis shoes or shorts he took pride in his appearance.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sol and Maggie Emerson Davis, Sr.; brothers, Henry Lucas Davis, Leroy Davis, Willie Howard Davis, Ossie Davis, and Fletcher Ferlander Davis; sisters, Hertisteen Davis, Ida-May McDaniel, Warden Weeden, Katherine Black, and Shelby Jean Hubbard. He leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memory his children, Marcia (Bobby) Davis of Canton, Ohio, Jolecia Michelle Davis of Huntsville, Alabama, and Michael Davis of Cleveland, Ohio.; brother, Drifton (Barbara) Davis of Hampton, Virginia; sisters, Agrippa Bass of Huntsville, Alabama, Ollie Grishwel of Detroit, Michigan, Margaret Whitfield of East Canton, Ohio, Patricia Gulley of Akron, Ohio and Dorothy Nell Davis of Somerville, Alabama; five grandchildren; and nine great- grandchildren; aunt, Roxie Gurley; nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Special thanks to Richard Johnson and his many care givers.

Services will be held on Monday, September 10, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Stewart & Calhoun Funeral Home, 529 W. Thornton St., Akron, OH 44307, Eld. Michelle Barnes officiating. Interment Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Friends may visit our chapel from 10 a.m. until time of service. Procession will form and condolences may be sent to 744 Hayden Ave., Akron, OH 44320.
