Michael Soergel Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 12, 2017.
Michael Soergel

Michael Soergel, 68, passed away suddenly in Denver, Colorado.

Mike was a graduate of Akron East High School and Baldwin-Wallace College. After college, he moved to Steamboat Springs, Colorado and spent the remainder of his life there and in Denver. For many years, Mike managed the Tugboat Saloon in Steamboat. More than one Akron friend learned that you could find Mike by just mentioning his name to any local and they would direct you with a smile to the Tugboat.

In Denver, Mike became the manager of Mountain Reload which coordinated the loading of freight cars.

Mike was devoted to his sister and her family, always ready to lend the hand of their Big Brother.

We are grateful that Mike was able to attend his 50th high school reunion last year and reconnect with many of his friends.

Loyal to his friends and devoted to his family, a big guy with a bigger heart, Mike's passing leaves a void in many lives.

Mike has been a part of our lives for over one-half of a century. His death has been deeply felt by many, including his friends since childhood Sandi (Holland) Brubach, Jane (Neill) Caldwell, Chris Gaone, Rick Harris, Mick Paulis, John and Marlene (Lazar) Petroff, and Neil Quirk.

So sorry to hear this. Mike was a fraternity brother and an amazing athlete who could do just about anything. How such a big guy could swim so fast always amazed me. I will always remember "Big Mama!"
