Edythe Phillips Obituary

Edythe M. Phillips

Edythe M. Phillips, 90, passed peacefully away December 27, 2007 at Pleasant View Health Care Center with her children by her side.

Although in failing health, she never complained and felt she had been blessed with a good life. Edie grew up on a farm in Hartville where she graduated from school. As a teenager, she helped harvest celery and later worked at Monarch Rubber. After marriage and raising her children, she worked for First Merit Bank in Arlington Plaza. Upon retiring, she moved to Kissimmee, Florida with her husband Paul, where she enjoyed biking, day trips, bingo and pot luck dinners with her many friends. They later returned to live in Akron, to be closer to family.

Edythe was preceded in death by husband, Paul Phillips; parents, Orrie and Martha Swartz; sisters, Marie Weaver and Violet Gosche; and brother, Bill Swartz. She is survived by children, Thomas (Barbara) Cook of Portage Lakes and Sharon Cook (William) Lea of Louisville, Kentucky. She was proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Jodi Cook (Tom) Parras and Isabel, Kyra and Lilly, John (Jeanette) Cook and Luca, Jeff (Sara) Cook, Jennifer Lea (Brad) Pugh and Katie and Ben, Heather Lea (Leo) Wimsatt, and Suzanne Lea (Randy) Hoffacker; she also leaves step-grandchildren, Rob Wagner, Erin Wagner Theodoro, and Gretchen Wagner Currie.

The family would like to especially thank the care-givers at Pleasant View who created a wonderful home for her in her final years and Hospice of Barberton.

A graveside service will take place at Mt. Peace Cemetery in Hartville at 11 a.m. Monday December 31st. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Barberton Hospice and Palliative Care, 103 Fifth St. SE, Suite S, Barberton, Ohio 44203. Arnold 330-877-9364 www.arnoldfuneralhome.com

My condolences to the Phillips family. I knew your mother from the Pleasantview Nursing Home. She was always happy to see me and give me a big hug. She sat at the table next to my mother's table, Mary Lipovsky, and I would always take time to greet her and give a hug & kiss. She was so excited that I was getting married in September, that we came to Pleasantview before the reception for her and her best friend, Phayla, to see us dressed up. I loved her passion for reading. She would come read to my aunt, who is also at Pleasantview, who is blind. What a generous soul she was. I will never forget her. My mother passed away Dec. 21 at the nursing home. I had met her son Tom a few times. I was out of town on the 31st, so please accept my sincere sympathy for your family.

My sympathy to all the family. She was a great aunt as she was always available when I needed a favor. I'll miss our visits.
