Joanne Glinsky Obituary

Joanne E. Glinsky, RN, age 71, passed away at her home on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 from complications of ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease).

Joanne was born on October 26, 1941 in Akron, Ohio. She was a graduate of Lake High School as well as a RN graduate from Akron City Hospital School of Nursing. As a nurse she was associated with Akron Children's Hospital, Barberton Citizen's Hospital, Visiting Nurses Association, Hospice (as a volunteer), and Akron General Medical Center, where she recently retired as a Halo Nurse. She was a past president of Knights of Columbus #3410 Ladies Auxiliary and was a charter member of Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Catholic Church, where she served as past Vice-President of the Ladies Guild, Eucharistic Minister, and a member of the We Care Group.

Joanne was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ann Flamish. She is survived by her husband, Gerald, of 49-½ years of marriage; daughter, Lisa (Greg) Rocko of Atlanta, Ga.; sons, Vincent (Cheryl) of Strongsville, Ohio, Matthew (Erica) of Milwaukee, Wis., and Kevin of Springfield Township; grandchildren, Sarah, Kristen, and Adam Rocko, Rachel, Victoria, Alexis, Jonathan, Sophia, and Grant Glinsky; sisters, Marilyn Sadler of North Canton, Ohio and Kathleen Flamish of Weston, Fla.

She was a wonderful wife, mom and grandmother who enjoyed caring for all her family and loved making special dinners for all who visited her home for the holidays. She will be best remembered by her friends and family as a compassionate listener who selflessly devoted her time and placed others wants and needs before her own.

Calling hours will be Sunday, December 9 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Road, Akron. Mass of Christian Burial will be at the Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Catholic Church, 2425 Myersville Road, Akron, Ohio on Monday, December 10 at 10 a.m., with Fr. David Halaiko presiding. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to her church building fund or the ALS Association. Gerry and Family, Know you all will miss Joanne. She fought this disease really hard. Thank you for giving her the Android Phone...she and I communicated that way. She always stayed real positive. Glad you were all able to do some traveling with her while she was able to do so. Thanks for emailing the pictures you took. Last I saw her in person was at Bob Evans when she was out to lunch with a friend. We hugged, and t alked. We will miss her. Praying for all of you.
