Dennis Butts Obituary
Pastor Dennis K. Butts, Sr. peacefully went home to be the Lord after a short but courageous fight with cancer that never conquered his will to live, love for his wife Jewrusha; sons, Paul (Kena) and Dennis Jr. (Millicent), or the rest of his family, commitment to serve God, faithful service to The House of the Lord church, or desire to love hurting people.
Because of his large impact on the greater Akron area and beyond, a Community Celebration will be held in his honor while he lies in state for public viewing on Saturday, September 24, 2016 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. (special words and presentations from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.). This celebration will be followed by the funeral service to further celebrate his life on Sunday, September 25, 2016 at 5 p.m. Calling hours will occur from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. before the service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent made to the Pastor Dennis K. Butts, Sr. and Jewrusha Butts Scholarship Fund. Contributions can be sent to: The House of the Lord, c/o Pastor Dennis K. Butts, Sr. and Jewrusha Butts Scholarship Fund, 1650 Diagonal Road, Akron, OH 44320.

I knew Pastor Butts when we were students at West Jr. High School. He was truly one of the nicest people I knew. He was kind, honest and funny. I only have fond memories of Dennis. I cannot image how you must feel after the huge loss of Pastor Butts. It won't be the same at church on Sunday mornings without him walking around church greeting everyone with that great smile. What a beautiful home going service Sunday evening.

As I recall the different venues in which Pastor Dennis and I met, I found him to be a very warm and authentic person. He seemed to possess a caring and compassionate posture as a minister that was attractive to people who were needing that kind of ministry.
