JERRY RUSSELL

May 30, 1947 - April 19, 2014 OKLAHOMA CITY Jerry Russell "The Guitar Picking Salesman", died April 19, 2014 from type II diabetes and heart complications. He was born May 30, 1947 in Little Rock AR, to Jack and Lillian Russell and he grew up Wewoka, OK, where the family was clothing manufacturers. He graduated high school from Kemper Military School. After a short stint at O.U., he graduated from Central State College (today's UCO) with a business degree. Growing up in the family manufacturing business Jerry became successful at being a clothes salesman. After working with a client Jerry loved playing them a song. When he wasn't selling clothes, his passion was entertaining and playing guitar. Jerry always selected a nice variety of songs for his audience. In his later years he enjoyed playing at retirement facilities. He provided them with a lot of happiness. He loved playing Happy Trails as his closing song. In his retirement years, he was known as the "One Man Band". Jerry was an accomplished guitarist and singer. He was a member of Church of the Servant and Parakletos Sunday School class. Jerry and Pam enjoyed traveling with their friends and their Sunday School. He was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Lillian Russell and his aunt Vivian Haney. Jerry is survived by his wife Pam and her daughters and families; his brother Van his wife Melanie; niece Madelyn and husband Blake April and his nephew Jackson Russell. A service celebrating Jerry`s life will be 11 am Friday, April 25, 2014, at the Chapel of the Cross, Church of the Servant, 14343 N. MacArthur Blvd., Oklahoma City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The City Rescue Mission, Salvation Army or the charity of the donor's choice.
