Michael Cobb Obituary

October 30, 1954 - June 11, 2011 OKLAHOMA CITY Michael Bruce Cobb was born on October 30, 1954 in Clinton, Oklahoma, to Lena Edna and Robert Roland Cobb. He lost his battle with large cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma on June 11, 2011. Mike always considered Clinton his hometown. He attended Clinton schools, graduating in 1972. He earned a BA with honors from Southwestern Oklahoma State University studying art under Montee Holk. Mike wanted to thank all his friends and classmates for making Clinton a wholesome place to grow up and raise families. Mike is survived by his wife, Maryjo "Jo" Meacham, of the home; his mother, Lena Snider of Clinton; his brother, Barry and wife Dondi Cobb of Corn; and his sister, Julie Henry of Jones, Oklahoma. He is also survived by nieces: Melissa Ann Henry of Seattle, Washington; and Anna Ruth Cobb of Corn, Oklahoma; and his nephews: Mark Alan Cobb of Butler, Oklahoma; Brian Paul Cobb of Clinton, Oklahoma; Derrick Thomas Henry of Denver, Colorado; and Dossie Edmond Newton III (Trey) of Weatherford, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Roland Cobb. Michael became a Christian on May 20, 1975, with the help of Rich Redinger of the Serendipity House Ministries, an event that changed his life forever. After college, Mike was employed at the OU bookstore and then the Rock Island Railroad. Later, Mike worked for IMCO Halliburton Drilling Fluids in Clinton and other oil related companies. He then began his career in construction in Tulsa. He moved to Aspen, Colorado, and worked as a master finish carpenter and later as a kitchen designer. He moved to Dallas, Texas, as a master trim carpenter and worked for the Skinner Brothers. He also worked for Sawatzky Construction in Weatherford, and in 1994 he worked for Jim Milot Cabinets in Oklahoma City. In 1997, he married Maryjo Meacham, a classmate from Clinton, Oklahoma, and together they ran the Holmberg House Bed and Breakfast in Norman, Oklahoma. In 1999, Mike and his wife started Vintage Kitchens, now known as Urban Kitchens, an Oklahoma City kitchen remodeling business, and have worked together for 12 years. Mike was active in FFA, Art Club and wrestling in high school. Mike's passions included flying and rebuilding glider airplanes. He was the President of the Soaring Sooners Association, an OKC glider club. Mike was also well known as an excellent clay artist, creating many beautiful and unique pieces over the years. He taught at the OKC City Arts Center and at the Classen School of Advanced Study. Mike loved the outdoors including camping, hiking, and fishing. A memorial service will be held at Smith and Kernke on 23rd Street in Oklahoma City on Wednesday, June 15, 2011, at 2:30 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to the Humane Society, American Cancer Society or your charity of choice.
