Mary Ramirez

Mary Catherine "Cathie" Ramirez, 89, of Bethany, passed away January 31, 2011 at the Grace Living Center in Bethany. Her funeral will be held at 1:30PM, Monday, February 7 at the Mercer-Adams Funeral Home Chapel in Bethany with the Rev. Wayne Pittard officiating. Visitation will be Sunday 5:00PM-8:00PM at the funeral home. Cathie was born February 16, 1921 at McLeansboro, Illinois to Mary Lane and George Washington Tousley. She married John Ramirez on October 30, 1948 in Edmond, Oklahoma. Cathie graduated from McLeansboro High School and received her BS from Central State University and MA from the University of Oklahoma. She was a career teacher with assignments in Bradley, Oklahoma, Northern Oklahoma Junior College, McLeansboro High School, and the Madison, Wisconsin Public Schools, retiring in 1984 after 40 years of teaching. Cathie was very active in the professional organizations AAUW, NEA, and Madison Civics Club and served as an officer in the AAUW during 1956-60. She was also a member of the Madison First Baptist Church for sixty years. Her interests included travel, photography, coin and stamp collecting and needlework. She also supported several pet advocacy organizations. Cathie was preceded in death by her husband John, her parents, and by sisters Pearl Duncan, Marjorie Toney, Anna Tousley, and Emma Pierce. Survivors include numerous nephews and nieces who will all miss her dearly. Interment will be in the Edmond Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to: The First Baptist Church, 518 N.
