Gregory Gilcrease Obituary

March 13, 1956 - Feb 4, 2012 SAPULPA Greg grew up in Oklahoma City, attended West Nichols Hills Elementary, Hoover Junior High and graduated John Marshall High School in 1974. He was a baseball player, hunter, and fisherman and a friend to many.He began his professional career as a field right of way agent with Coates Field Service Company. He spent many years with Coates and was promoted regularly throughout his tenure and eventually became Vice President of Right of Way Services. Greg traveled throughout the continental United States selling, performing and managing projects for the oil and gas pipeline, electric transmission and transportation industries. He became recognized as an industry leader and was involved in many professional Right of Way activities and associations. Later in his career, he became President of Right of Way for Cinnabar Field Services and eventually founded his own firm Gilcrease and Partners.Greg had a special way with people, which he enjoyed and maintained until death. He had lifetime friendships with many friends he met while growing up and friends he made during his professional career. He was proud of his professional accomplishments, but his professional achievements paled in comparison to the pride and love he had for his only child, beloved daughter, Mariah Michelle. He was also a great stepfather to Lindsey and Heath Lockart. He was preceded in death by his older sister, Rainey; and father, "Skeet." In addition to his daughter, Mariah; and stepchildren, Lindsey and Heath; he is survived by his adoring wife, Nancy; loving mother, Jean; sister, Beverly; Beverly's husband, Mike; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.Greg will be missed by many. A memorial service will be held at Village Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, OK on Wednesday, February 8, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Diabetes Association would be appreciated.

Hey Baby,
Not sure how many times I get to write to you,but I was lying in bed missing you so when I suddenly had a peace about me. I know how much brighter heaven is right now.
I will love and miss you always, but you are making others laugh. I miss your smile, but knowing that you are making others laugh out loud makes it bearable.
I love you,

I worked for Greg in several states and he was always a pleasure to be with. He always treated his land agents with a lot of respect. Even when we were not on a job, I always enjoyed going by his office and visiting with him. There is not many people like Greg and we will miss him greatly.

For the past few days, I know many, like me, have been “at a loss for words” to even begin how we felt. There have been unquestionably countless prayers for all the families and friends involved in this heartbreaking occurrence. But, Today this venue is for Greg Gilcrease…Mantis…The Man-tie…The King of the Night…our friend.

Dear Greg: You had numerous friends, both professionally and personally, as illustrated at your memorial service today. You never met a stranger, could light up a room, find humor when the “chips” where down and amplified the good times.

You lived your life, as if you were larger than life itself, and had “a one of its kind” affect on those you came in association with. Rarely a harsh word, an open heart and always eager to dream of future events yet to come…

So, start the campfire and set-up some extra seats, because there will be others joining you, Skeet, Rainey, The Bowens and others the imminent future.

Today, Stump, Lick, Jewels and I were getting ready to leave our house for your Memorial Service, when we “all four” spotted a rare Bald Eagle outside circling. Was that you declaring your Freedom? I want to think so…

Greg, you were a Man's Man and a Gentleman ? you were a true friend.

Greg, like his father, was one of the most kind and caring people I've ever met. I guess heaven was getting short of his kind. My condolences to my neighbor Jean and his sister Beverly; condolences also to his daughter Mariah and wife Nancy. R.I.P. Greg, you are truly missed.

Greg - as with most old friends, the years pass and you lose touch. But something about the group we were part of made every get together seem like time stood still. I have never been around anyone funnier, that could make everyone around you cry from laughting so hard over the stories and situations your life created. You will be missed!
