Nora Collinsworth Obituary
Nora Mae (Stringer), went to Heaven March 2, 2005 at the age of 90. She was born to Matt & Stella (Norris) Stringer in Reeding, OK. She married Harry Lee Collinsworth in Enid, OK on Jan. 16, 1934. They celebrated 66 years together before his death in 2000. Nora Mae was liberated long before it became fashionable. During WWII, while Harry was in the service, she worked building jeep bodies for the military, a true Rosie the Riveter. Later, she co-owned and managed two different restaurants in the OKC area. She then went to work for the OKC Schools as an elementary school cafeteria manager, where she worked in several different schools over the next 20 years until her retirement. She and Harry were charter members of Trinity Freewill Baptist Church, where you could find her doing whatever needed to be done. She might be helping with Vacation Bible School, helping in the nursery, singing in the choir or preparing food for a variety of activities at the church. Nora Mae loved to travel, do numerous craft projects, and was very active in her food service organization. She was always happy, fun-loving, and ready to go. She has been a member of Eastern Star for over 60 ears and a member of the Amaranth for about 50 years where she served as Worthy Matron and held many other offices. Her family was always her pride and joy. She was happiest when we were all together and she could feed everyone his or her favorite dishes. We will miss her each and every day and cherish our wonderful memories. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry; daughter, Betty Heath-Hall; both parents, Matt & Stella Stringer; 3 brothers, Elmer, Ray & Chester Stringer; 3 sisters, Mabel Bryant, Hester Burk, & Dorothy Elder; a half brother & sister, Jim Stringer & Laura Johnston. She is survived by her daughter, Loretta Cavett & husband Donald; son, John L. Collinsworth & wife, Diana; grandsons: Bobby Heath & wife, Jill, Scott Heath & wife, Lore, Stephen Heath & wife, Wendy; and 4 great grandchildren: Matthew Heath, Hannah Heath, Hayley Heath, Parker Heath; and a sister, Mattie Faye Hamilton. A thank you to staff at Alterra Sterling House, which has been her home for the last 5 years. A special thank you to Elizabeth & Brenda. We will always be grateful for our special caregiver & friend, Fran Isaac; she loved you. We appreciate everything Hospice of OK County did to make her last days as comfortable as possible. Services will be held 1:00 PM, Monday, March 7, 2005 at the Trinity Freewill Baptist Church, with burial following at Resthaven Cemetery.
