Roger Barrios

Barrios, Roger Edgar, age 61, passed away Thursday, February 12, 2009 at his home in Oklahoma City. Roger was born October 6, 1947 to Edgar and Chere (Leverich) Barrios in Vallejo, CA. Roger graduated from the University of Oklahoma and continued on to attain his Masters degree at Central State University. Roger was a science teacher for twenty years at Putnam City North High School. He was also a Master Diver and SCUBA Diving Instructor at the YMCA. He also spent time along the Baja Coast, where he collected specimens for Central State University. Roger's love for diving led him to be a Charter member of the Oklahoma Hydronauts. Roger's many talents and hobbies included glass-blowing, wine-making, and gardening. He loved to travel, especially to Europe and Mexico. He was an Eagle Scout and a Captain of the Candyboat Ship, a crew boat that travelled to offshore oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico. He enjoyed listening to great music of the 1960's and 70's, and his favorite artists were the Beach Boys and Roger Whittaker. Roger had a passion for life and truly lived every moment to its fullest. Roger is survived by the love of his life, Carmen Barrios two daughters, Ginger Lloyd and her husband, Joey, and Monica Webb and her husband, Franklin one sister, Donna Lynn Tom grandchildren, Katie and Kori Lloyd nephews, Devin Haury and his wife Elizabeth, Jeremy Haury, and Jason Haury great-nephew Christopher Haury, special friends, Colt Gibbon, Phil Trotter and the Oklahoma Hydronauts and numerous relatives, friends, colleagues, and students. Roger's family would like to extend a special thanks to Amanda, Kelly, and Kirsten, Metro Transit, St. Anthony's Hopsital Dialysis Outpatient Unit, the staff and students at Putnam City North High School and U.S. Grant High School. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, February 16, 2009 in the Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel with interment following at Resthaven Memory Gardens.
